Boy Discovers His Mind Powers But Chaos Follows Him Everywhere.
A quiet boy has secret mind powers, like reading thoughts and moving stuff. But no matter how hard he tries to stay normal, wild and crazy people around him always mess things up.
‘SPOILER ALERT’
A random man rushes to a woman who is going on a walk with her dog. He’s stunned by how adorable the dog looks and also complements its name. He asks if he can play with the dog while speaking about how much he loves animals. While this happens, Kusuo Saiki narrates how he can read people’s minds and reveals that the random man actually hates animals and is just trying to get close to their owner.
The dog suddenly wanders onto a road as the man lets it go, and Saiki reveals he can also see through walls. A truck gets awfully close to hitting the dog but suddenly levitates in the air. Both the man and the dog’s owner are shocked to see this and try to confirm if they’re going crazy. Saiki can move things with his mind, and he saves the dog.
Being a psychic, he speaks on his origin story and how he was born with extraordinary abilities. He could speak properly from infancy, but his parents, Kurumi and Kuniharu, didn’t seem too surprised. Saiki learned how to walk just a month after his birth and was already levitating around the house. He gained a new ability when he was a year old and helped Kurumi get some items from the market.
Instead of being terrified by their child’s strange abilities, Saiki’s parents were happy and called him a special child. His artistic abilities came in not long after as he drew a life-like picture of Kuniharu.
Saiki’s powers remained intact and got even stronger as he grew older. He uses them for all sorts of things, like looking through cards and being able to read girls’ minds. Gambling seems like an easy way for him to become rich, as he can easily use his abilities to win over and over again.
In a sudden twist, Saiki reveals that his powers are more of a curse than a blessing and have ruined his life. He doesn’t need to concentrate on anything as he can already see through any cards he plays. He reads a cute girl’s mind, and she thinks he’s her type of man. Her thoughts become weird as she begins thinking about using the toilet and how she’s close to pooping herself.
The girl suddenly thinks Saiki looks like poop, and this bums him out. Gambling is also not an option because repeated victories without any losses will attract a lot of attention and even get him arrested as a con artist. Saiki tags himself as the unluckiest man on planet Earth because he can do everything with ease.
Being able to do everything seems like a blessing but Saiki explains that he’s lost the sense of accomplishment that comes with achieving goals. He also doesn’t experience love and can’t enjoy a surprise party because he already knows it’s about to happen. To make matters worse, he also doesn’t experience happiness or sadness, which does make his powers seem like a burden.
Saiki arrives at his school, PK Academy, and mentions how his goal in life is to be a normal person. He has accepted his fate as being cursed with such insane powers but keeps on trying to be like everyone else. He greets a fellow student upon entering his class and takes a seat.
Although his main goal is to be a normal person, his bright pink hair and antennae seem not to help issues. The antennae help him control his ever-increasing powers and he could accidentally destroy an entire city if his emotions fluctuate slightly without them on. His pink hair and antennae aren’t a problem, as he can hypnotize everyone around him into thinking he looks normal.
The teacher walks into the class and greets his students. He informs everyone that their next school festival is coming up, and they should all prepare to be in a festive mood. He also points out that there’s always one form of disturbance or abnormality in every festival they host and threatens to cancel the next year’s festival if such a disturbance occurs.
Saiki initially is in favor of the festival being cancelled but realizes it’s the perfect opportunity for him to teleport far away and enjoy some time alone. The teacher instructs the students to come up with an activity for the festival and sits down beside the window.
Kineshi Hairo, a red-haired and overly passionate student, walks to the front and tells the class he’s in charge of their activities during the festival. Saiki doesn’t like Hairo because he’s loud, overly energetic, and annoyingly passionate about everything. He remembers a sports event where he tried to remain under the radar, but Hairo wouldn’t leave him alone.
Realizing that he’d attract too much attention if he became the last man standing at the dodgeball game, Saiki tried getting himself eliminated, but Hairo caught the ball just before it hit the ground. He sustained an injury that made him unable to continue, leaving Saiki as the last man. Hairo is also overdramatic and didn’t hold back in making everyone pay attention to Saiki.
Back in the present, the students give their ideas on what they should do for the upcoming festival and someone suggests they create an exhibit. One student pulls out a strange looking rock and his friend suggests they create an exhibit of interesting rocks found on school ground. Most students agree with the idea but Hairo refuses as the idea sounds boring.
Being the overdramatic student that he is, he convinces the class that there are much better ideas than just searching for rocks around the school. Everyone except Saiki is pumped by his motivation, but their motivation is shattered when Hairo suggests they create a thousand origami cranes. He initially suggests they all make a thousand origami cranes each but ups the number to three thousand three hundred and thirty-three each so they can create an exhibit with a hundred thousand cranes.
Saiki walks out of the class with the realization that he has to be present to monitor everyone and prevent the next school festival from being cancelled. While walking, Riki Nendo suddenly appears behind him and covers his mouth instead of his eyes. Saiki speaks on how he never lets people sneak up on him but Nendo is an exception.
Nendo isn’t an exception because they’re friends but because he’s an idiot with a blank mind. He can read anyone’s mind that’s within a two-hundred-meter radius, but not Nendo’s. Nendo considers Saiki as his friend and wants to search for rocks with him. Saiki isn’t interested in being followed around, but Nendo refuses to understand and says he’ll follow him anywhere.
Shun Kaido suddenly stands before them and wants to speak to Saiki. He scans the area as though he’s being watched and asks Saiki to accompany him. Nendo also tags along as they walk to the roof, and Kaido hands Saiki a letter he found in his shoe closet. He claims it’s from an evil group known as the Dark Reunion, and they’ve been after him for some time.
Saiki doesn’t seem surprised and knows Kaido for saying a lot of nonsense. Kaido goes on about how the Dark Reunion wants to steal the force in his right hand called the Black Beat. Saiki plays along with Kaido’s world and asks what his true identity is. While standing in an awkward way, Kaido does a ridiculous dance before revealing that his real name is Ebony Wings.
Saiki attributes his strange behavior to middle school syndrome. He asks Kaido why he was shown the letter, and Kaido tries to rope him into his fantasy world. Kaido explains that he has no idea of what’s in the letter and has a feeling that the Dark Reunion will attack during the school festival. Saiki still believes that Kaido is acting insane but wonders who sent the letter. He asks if he can keep it and claims he’ll be able to find who sent it.
Time passes, and the students arrive at school one morning. They have only a week until the school festival commences, and some students check out the rocks they’ve found. Saiki doubts some of the rocks he sees because there’s no way they were found close to the school.
One student asks Hairo if he has found anything, and although he’s holding an incredible rock, he claims not to have found anything that inspires him. He says he’ll keep looking after class and Saiki notices that everyone is putting interest in the rock exhibit. Some students suddenly scream in shock because Kokomi Teruhashi, the most popular girl in the school, doesn’t want to participate in the Miss PK Contest.
Saiki isn’t interested in Kokomi because she’s nice and beautiful on the outside but vain and proud on the inside. He doesn’t find her attractive in any way and her pride comes off as scary sometimes. Unfortunately, Kokomi has had a crush on Saiki ever since a certain event.
During their last summer break, Saiki was on his way home when Kokomi suddenly approached him. He read her thoughts and saw that she was trying to use him for self-validation. She expected him to say “Oh wow” as every guy she meets does so. She went ahead and created a crazy scenario in her head where Saiki had a terrible summer break but was excited because of her appearance.
Saiki bowed as a form of greeting and quickly walked away. Kokomi found herself in a state of panic as she wondered why her charms weren’t working. She tried talking to him again but he walked around her and completely ignored her. As if the embarrassment wasn’t enough, Kokomi tried touching Saiki but he dodged her hand.
Saiki realized he would draw a lot of attention to himself if spotted with Kokomi. He searched for the nearest opportunity to teleport and ran towards a building. Kokomi ran after him but suddenly lost him and began wondering if she was only seeing his mirage. She wondered why she was interested in him and assumed she might be in love.
Back in the present, Kokomi gets excited when she sees Saiki’s rock and says he has good taste. She asks Saiki what he’ll be up to during the festival, as having an exhibit means they’ll be free. Saiki just wants to hang out on his own during the festival, but Kokomi wants to spend time with him. Kaido suddenly emerges and says he and Saiki will be busy fighting off the Dark Reunion. He asks Kokomi if she wants to join them, but she isn’t interested and leaves to search for rocks.
The day of the school festival arrives, and Saiki has breakfast with his parents. Several bad omens occur at a stretch, and his parents feel that something bad will happen that day. They ask Saiki to be careful at school before conducting their strange “flint ritual” in front of him.
Saiki leaves for school and narrates how he can hear any sound within 200 meters. He can also see the future but says it’s almost impossible to stop every negative event that could happen during the festival. He also notices that Kokomi has been following him around and intends to get him to say “Oh Wow” a hundred times during the festival. Saiki wonders why she’s obsessed with the phrase and arrives at school.
The festival is ongoing, and a giant banner asks that the day be problem-free. The class comes together and talks about the rocks they’ve gathered. Nendo’s rock has a face on it, and Saiki wonders what temple he stole it from. All the guys, except Saiki, find Kokomi’s heart-shaped rock to be adorable, but Saiki points out that there’s a crack in the middle.
Aren Kuboyasu shows everyone his blood-stained rock and Saiki senses trouble from it. Hairo shows everyone his racket-shaped rock and it obviously wasn’t found around the school premises. He forces everyone to huddle up before wishing them success during the festival. Kuboyasu suddenly walks to Saiki and talks about how the audience will be confused as to who he is. He asks Saiki to give him a proper introduction and Saiki does.
Kuboyasu transferred into the school three months ago and was a famous thug. He was also the head of a gang but is trying to turn a new leaf and live as a modest student. This doesn’t seem easy, as his anger often gets the best of him. One time, a student accidentally bumped into him, and he tried retaliating by using a fire extinguisher. He suddenly changed his mind upon remembering his new leaf, but Saiki saw everything.
Saiki walks in a hallway that’s full of visitors and festivity. He senses that trouble is popping up everywhere, and his biggest concern is Kokomi, who keeps following him and thinking she’s undetectable. Kokomi wonders why Saiki hasn’t responded to the letter she left in his shoe locker and believes he doesn’t have the words to respond with.
In reality, Saiki doesn’t care about the letter and really isn’t interested in her. She continues fantasizing about receiving a hundred “Oh Wow’s” from Saiki and he continues wondering why she’s so obsessed with the phrase. He notes how he might have to teleport if problems arise around the school but Kokomi is making it a difficult option.
She finally decides to approach Saiki after making various plots in her head but is delayed as the Kokomi Fan Club rushes to surround her. They insist that she joins the beauty contest but Kokomi plays the cute yet innocent maiden and refuses. They begin chanting her name while begging her to join the contest and Saiki takes the chance to escape.
Finally free from Kokomi, Saiki sees a poster of a magician named Uryoku Chono. Several students stand around his stage and watch as he introduces himself. Saiki is surprised that Chono’s mother is his assistant and senses trouble from them. Chono’s introduction is slow and boring and Saiki can tell his tricks aren’t going to be interesting. His first trick involves trying to escape from a box while tied up and he has limited time before several knives will be inserted.
Meanwhile, Nendo and Kuboyasu watch the beauty contest and Kuboyasu asks a random girl, who doesn’t school at PK Academy, to join. Kaido continues blabbing about the Dark Reunion and how they plan on destroying the world. the contest begins and everyone realizes that Kokomi was selected as a special student judge.
Back at the magic performance, Chono enters the box and begins knocking to get his mum’s attention, but she doesn’t respond. She starts the countdown, which is three minutes and prepares to stab the box. The teacher is also on the lookout for anyone who causes any trouble. Three minutes pass, and Saiki teleports into the box to save Chono, who he thinks is going to die.
Chono isn’t in the box, but Saiki finds a speaker making a banging noise. His teleportation has a cooldown time of ten minutes, so he’s forced to stay in the box. Chono’s mum begins stabbing the box with the swords on the stage.
Elsewhere, Kaido gets approached by someone claiming to be from the Dark Reunion. Meanwhile, Saiki dodges all the knives that were put into the box. Chono’s mum moves to the next trick, where the box is lifted thirty meters above the ground and dropped. Saiki, who is still in the box, survives by jumping just before the box hits the ground.
As though she doesn’t want her son to make it out alive, she proceeds to set the box on fire, which Saiki negates by freezing the inside and keeping himself safe. Next, she decides to crush the box using a steamroller and screams in excitement. The audience joins her in screaming while her son Chono sits in his tent and is impressed by her performance.
Everyone cheers as this happens and Saiki realizes ten minutes has missed. He teleports out of the box just before the steamroller hits and Chono’s mum asks where he is. Chono suddenly appears behind everyone and the audience is stunned by his performance. He decides to take everyone on a grand illusion and the audience excitedly follows him around.
Back at the beauty contest, Kokomi isn’t interested in being a judge because Saiki isn’t present. Kaido follows the Dark Reunion member to their secret hideout and their leader reveals himself. He calls himself Moonlight Butterfly and forces Kaido to perform a ritual dance before allowing him to seat.
Kaido reveals he was a member of the Dark Reunion before realizing they were evil and escaped. Moonlight Butterfly offers Kaido a chance to return to the union but he refuses and threatens to use the “force” in his right hand. A strange battle ensues with Kaido dodging a laser pointer. This causes a spark on a circuit box that startles the oh so great Kaido.
Meanwhile, Hairo and some other students prepare to embark on a 10K marathon. Nendo wonders why they’re having a marathon during a festival as it’s uncommon. He realizes shortly after that the winner of the race gets to stare at Kokomi for ten minutes and gets interested. Knowing there’s a high chance that someone will get hurt during the race, Saiki decides to follow them to try and avert any incoming trouble. He floats around and watches as the racers wait at a stop light.
While this is happening, Kuboyasu opens his shoe locker and finds several letters of challenge from thugs. At the same time, Moonlight Butterfly reveals that Kaido needs seven special balls that are around the campus to defeat the Dark Reunion. Kaido rushes out of the room to search for the balls but his enemies pretend to go after him.
Outside, the teacher is informed that some students are running a marathon. He asks for more guards to supervise the students and rushes to the scene. Hairo runs as fast as he can during the marathon and refuses to lose to anyone. Unfortunately for him, Nendo easily catches up even after stopping to buy a drink.
Shocked by what he’s seeing, Hairo wonders how Nando is as fast as he is while still in his uniform. Most of the students are exhausted, but Hairo keeps running, and Saiki is forced to use his powers to clear the path and prevent an accident from occurring. Nendo catches up with Hairo again, and they see the finish line.
Realizing he’s about to lose to someone who is running backward, Hairo lies and tells Nendo that there are some sumo wrestlers around the area. Nendo stops running to search for the wrestlers and Hairo uses this chance to take the lead and cross the finish line first. He dives to the ground the moment he crosses the line everyone laughs at him.
Kokomi returns to the area and pushes some students away so she can stand beside Saiki. She tries to have a conversation with him, but he remains uninterested. She asks him to accompany her to the haunted house and to get something to eat. Saiki realizes that Hairo is meant to stare at her for ten minutes but sees that he’s still unconscious.
While all this is happening, Kuboyasu walks past some gangsters who are searching for him. The gangsters don’t recognize him as he looks completely different from before. Kuboyasu sees Kaido holding two large balls and wonders what he’s doing. The gangsters surround Kaido and show them pictures of Kuboyasy. He doesn’t recognize the pictures but is shocked when they mention his name.
Kuboyasu laughs as the gangsters realize he changed his appearance while changing schools. He instructs Kaido to leave and faces off against the gangsters, who apparently have a score to settle. Back in the school, Kokomi follows Saiki around as he tries preventing trouble from occurring.
Saiki accompanies her to the haunted house against her will and she continues planning on getting him to fall for her. Her charms don’t work as usual and she makes herself believe that Saiki has built a tolerance to fear just to make her happy.
Kokomi looks terrifying while she plots how she’ll pretend to be terrified in the haunted house so Saiki can protect her and eventually fall for her. Saiki remains unmoved by her plans as he reads her thoughts and knows what she’s up to. They prepare to enter the building when Nendo approaches them and says he’d like to join.
Kokomi isn’t happy with his offer and tries to get him to change his mind but isn’t able to. Saiki agrees to Nendo’s proposal, and they walk into the room. Saiki doesn’t find it scary as he can see through the walls and sees the people hiding and waiting to frighten people. Kokomi tries her best to act scared and helpless, but her mind behaves otherwise.
The enter a certain part of the haunted house and a ghost pops out to scare them. the ghost sees Nendo’s face and faints in fear. Kokomi sees that her plan is crumbling as even the ghosts are afraid of Nendo. The boys find some props and decide to use them and scare the ghosts.
They eventually leave the haunted house and go to the bathroom to get cleaned up. Kokomi is angry because Nendo ruined her plan, and she calls him a third wheel. In the bathroom, Saiki washes the paint on his face while he hears some fighting going on outside. He picks up his glasses and puts them on but realizes they’re the props Nendo had on.
He stares at Nendo, who is wearing his glasses, and quickly looks away while trying to retrieve them. Saiki reveals that the glasses don’t help in correcting his sight but in suppressing a certain ability that makes any living thing he stares at turn to stone. He thinks of a solution to this problem and considers going back in time but realizes that dead things will remain dead even if he time travels.
Realizing that Nendo will go back to normal in twenty-four hours, Saiki decides to wait it out but wonders where he should keep Nendo. A bright idea pops into his head and he decides to turn Nendo into a part of the rock exhibit. Saiki proceeds to call Kurumi for help in retrieving his spare glasses.
This proved to be a waste of time as Kurumi hated searching for things and didn’t even bother checking Saiki’s room before giving up and saying she didn’t find them. Saiki goes around in search of a solution and accidentally turns several students into stone. The stone exhibit’s population increases as Saiki teleports, and he turns to stone to the exhibit.
He runs to the gym storage room, where he thinks he’ll be alone, but sadly finds Kokomi being mischievous. She refuses to reveal her reason for being in the room and lies that she’s afraid of the crowd. Saiki asks her to leave the room and she deludes herself thinking he’s too shy to talk to her. She even claims that Saiki can’t pull off a wall-smack but Saiki reveals that the building would collapse if he does.
Kokomi leaves the room and Saiki hears the fight that’s going on outside. He rushes to the window and watches as Kuboyasu beats up the gangsters that were searching for him. He instructs Kuboyasu to hand over his glasses and uses them to suppress his powers. It turns out that the glasses are heavily medicated and Kuboyasu can’t see a thing without them.
Saiki teleports out of the storage room and reverses time on the thugs so they’re no longer injured. The thugs run away as they obviously can’t defeat Kuboyasu. Curious as to what just happened, Kuboyasu questions Saiki but is shocked to learn that Saiki knows his history as a thug. Saiki promises not to tell anyone, and Kuboyasu claims not to be a thug.
Saiki goes back into the building and uses his “Aport” ability. It allows him interchange and teleport similar items and he switches Kuboyasu’s glasses for his spare glasses that are at home. He continues surveilling the school to prevent any incidents from occurring but Kokomi approaches him again.
She tells Saiki about a couple’s game their upperclassmen are hosting and asks if he’s interested in going with her. He immediately refuses as he knows the attention he’d get from hanging out with her. The Kokomi fan club suddenly rushes to the scene and confronts Saiki for being too close to Kokomi.
The club members threaten to purge Saiki for going against their club rules, but Kokomi stops them. She drags Saiki while running and takes him to the gym storage room where they last saw. A member of the fan club uses super glue to keep the room’s door locked, and Kokomi realizes they’re stuck. She wonders if it’s an automatic lock system, but Saiki has never heard of one.
Meanwhile, Kaido drags around seven large balls and returns to the Dark Union’s hideout. The union members, who were slacking off and even lying on the ground, get up as soon as he enters the room. The union members beg him not to use the balls against them as their plan is still in motion. As though that commotion wasn’t enough, more thugs arrive at the school in search of Kuboyasu.
Back in the storage room, Kokomi pretends to panic about being stuck when, in reality, she’s the mastermind behind all that’s happening. First off, she got the Kokomi fan club to play as the Dark Reunion, revealing that Kaido might actually be crazy. She suggested the marathon to Hairo to get him exhausted so he could be out of her way. She’s also responsible for the letters of challenge Kuboyasu found in his shoe locker.
The last part of her plan involved the fan club pretending to purge Saiki so she could run away with him and get trapped in the storage room. She has also replaced the windows with bulletproof glass and doesn’t plan on leaving the room until Saiki says “Oh Wow” as many times as possible. She puts fake tears in her eyes to make her sadness look real, but Saiki can literally see through it all. He thinks of a way to get free but realizes he can’t break the door or window with her watching.
Outside, the students are terrified as they see the gangsters swarming in. Their teacher rushes to hold them off and explains that Kuboyasu is an honor student. Kuboyasu appears but doesn’t understand what’s going on as he can barely see a thing.
Realizing he doesn’t have a choice, Saiki sends all the thugs back in time just as they’re about to attack Kuboyasu. Everyone wonders what just happened as the thugs suddenly disappear, and Chono claims it’s one of his magic tricks. Saiki passes out as he has maxed out his powers.
Kokomi wonders what’s wrong with him and thinks he’s too nervous to speak to her. She realizes that his hair is pink because his powers aren’t active when he’s unconscious. She also wonders why he has antennae on his head and pulls one out.
This proves to be a bad idea as it causes panic all over the world. Scientists notice strange phenomena occurring and have no idea what’s causing it. Everything goes back to normal when she puts it back on but she takes it out again.
Saiki eventually wakes up and accidentally shatters a piece of equipment upon touching it. This startles Kokomi, and she throws the antenna away. Saiki immediately instructs her to retrieve the antenna and hand it to her without touching him.
His power grows rapidly as he’s unable to control it, and the entire building begins freezing when it gets teleported into space. He can’t save them without the antenna, and the intense cold causes Kokomi to pass out. Saiki concentrates and is able to locate the antenna using his powers. He inserts it in his head and fully regains control.
Back on Earth, Kaido performs a strange dance in front of the bowling balls. The dance is meant to bring the building back, and Saiki uses his voice as a guide to return to Earth. They’re still trapped in the freezing room, but Saiki remembers a tunnel Chono used to perform illusions. He finds the tunnel and realizes there’s a way to survive the ordeal.
The following day, Saiki speaks to his parents while they have breakfast. They ask him to enjoy the festival, and Saiki leaves the house. While walking to school, he explains that he used his powers to reverse time by a day and alter everyone’s memories about what happened. He did so to prevent the trouble that happened before, as he now knows what to do. Sadly, Saiki is depressed because he’ll have to relive some of the craziness again.
Saiki was born with powers that most consider to be a blessing. Instead, these powers felt like a curse and prevented him from attaining his dream of living a normal life. His life became even crazier during the school festival, where trouble loomed at almost every corner. Luckily, Saiki found a solution and brought peace. Do you think Saiki will ever live a normal life?
