Yes Day (2021) Full Recap

Now gather all the phone and take it to the backyard. Three. Ow. Two. [screaming] No. An adventurous lady named Allison enjoys doing anything she finds interesting. She often says yes to any opportunity she gets to have fun. And she soon meets a man named Carlos who is just like her.

They eventually get married and as they start having kids, they're forced to say no many times. One morning while the kids Katie, Nando, and Ellie are having breakfast before going to school, Allison talks about having a job interview later today. Katie then asks Allison if she can go to a music festival called Fleekfest. She says she has already asked Carlos and he's fine with it only if Allison approves.

Allison then mentions that Katie is only 14 and she's not allowed to go to concerts without a parent. Katie looks disappointed and says that no one goes to a concert with a parent, but Allison insists. As Carlos shows up, Katie tells him to help her convince Allison to change her mind. Tag Alongs.

However, Carlos says that if Allison doesn't approve, Katie cannot go. Allison doesn't understand why Carlos is making her look like a bad parent, and she corrects him by saying that they're both making the decision to reject Katie's request. Almost immediately, Nando calls everyone's attention and shows them the waffle volcano he just made. He says he has put the right amount of baking soda into it as a catalyst and that he expects the volcano to erupt.

Hey, don't worry. Unfortunately, nothing happens and Nando looks disappointed. After this, Carlos tells Allison that he'll be stopping at the gym after work. Allison looks confused and asks why it has to be tonight. Almost immediately, Carlos realizes that they had something planned already, but he can't seem to remember what it is.

Ellie quickly reminds her dad that it's parent teacher night, and he tells Allison that he'll be there. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Allison then complains that she doesn't understand how he keeps forgetting simple things, even though there's a special task calendar on the refrigerator.

Carlos says it's a little too complicated, and Ellie agrees, saying it hurts her eyes. As Carlos then talks about how things were so simple when he was growing up, the kids mess around with him, but Allison tries to get them to hurry up with packing their things so they won't be late for school. Carlos continues having fun with the kids, and as Nando's waffle volcano erupts, it splashes on Allison's face. Nando looks excited but immediately apologizes to his mom who seems frustrated.

Shortly after, Carlos leaves the house and drives Ellie to school. On the way, Ellie tells Carlos to play some music. And as he does this, they sing together and enjoy the ride. Elsewhere, Allison leaves the house with Katie and Nando. In the car, Katie calls her friend Ila and says that Allison doesn't want her to attend the music festival.

Ila tries to get Allison to change her mind by calling her a cool mom. Allison then mentions that if the kids really think she's cool, they shouldn't have a problem with her following them to the concert. Ila tells her to forget about it, and after the call ends, Allison talks about when she took Katie to a Taylor Swift concert a while ago. Katie says she was 12 at the time, but Allison insists that they can still have a fun time together.

He believes in me. He knows I can handle myself. Katie then mentions that her dad already said she could go because he believes in her and knows that she can handle herself. However, Allison says Carlos just wants to be the good guy because he knows that she'll say no. She says she believes in Katie, but that going to concerts will open her up to a whole new world of people that she hasn't been exposed to yet.

Katie asks when she'll be able to go to concerts alone. Uh, section 10 of the contract says vomiting voice. And Allison says it will never happen. Katie seems pissed and says she can't wait to turn 18 in 4 years. As Allison then starts singing in the car, Katie and Nando complain about this.

Elsewhere, Ellie enjoys singing with Carlos. And after he drops her off at school, he heads to work. When he gets there, he sees some workers misbehaving and quickly cautions them while saying that his job is to prevent the company from getting sued. Meanwhile, Allison also drops off Nando and Katie before heading to the venue of her interview.

Despite having sufficient experience for the role, the manager at the company informs Allison that she prefers someone younger who will work late and sometimes complain that the job is unfair. Allison doesn't want this and she leaves immediately. Much later, Allison and Carlos head to Nando and Katie's school for parent teacher night. When they get there, they meet Nando's teacher, Mr.

Chan and Katie's teacher, Miss Hoffling. Allison and Carlos look confused when they see the teachers together, and they ask if there's something wrong. Chan then says that he and Hoffling have found a common theme in Katie and Nando's schoolwork. Allison and Carlos do not understand this, but Hoffling reads a poem that Katie wrote about her mom being her captor.

Chawn also shows them a video Nando made for history class. In the video, Nando implies that his mom is a dictator in the house, and this makes Allison sad until Mr. As she leaves the classroom, Carlos follows her and tells her to stop. She eventually stops in the cafeteria and Carlos plays down everything as nothing serious.

Allison doesn't like this and she complains that Carlos makes her look bad. Carlos looks confused, but Allison says he's the fun dad while she's stuck being the bad cop. She also mentions that Carlos wasn't portrayed as a villain in the video like she was. They actually smile when they see me.

As she asks how he became the fun one, even though it was always her, Carlos laments that he's the bad guy at work. And when people see him, they stop smiling. He says he's not really pleased about it and that when he comes home, he's always happy to see the kids smiling when they see him. Allison says it's unfair and that sometimes when she's harsh to the kids, she always feels bad.

Suddenly, the school's guidance counselor and PE teacher, Mr. Deacon, overhears them and interrupts their conversation. He then calls them to the kitchen and says that he knows a few things about parenting because he has six kids at home. He adds that the secret to keeping his kids happy is to give them yes days.

Carlos asks what he means and he says that they just have to pick a day and say yes to everything their kids want for 24 hours. Allison finds this funny and Carlos asks if Deacon really says yes to everything his kids want, both professionally and personally. Deacon says he does, but that he also lays down some ground rules by telling them that they can't ask for something in the future or commit any crimes. He says he knows it's a bit crazy, but that it has been a gamecher for him.

He adds that yes, days liberate kids and give parents a rest day. Allison then mentions that even though the plan sounds like a good one, she's not sure it can work because he doesn't know her kids well enough. Following program is intended for mature audiences only. She adds that saying yes to everything their kids want would be apocalyptic.

Deacon then says that even though he doesn't know their kids, he still thinks they should say yes to a yes day. On the way home, Carlos does a bit of research on yes days and find some good benefits. Allison doesn't believe it's something they should try. But Carlos implies that if they become less serious, things might change for the better at home.

Allison doesn't seem sure about this, but she doesn't say anything else. When they arrive home, the kids greet them, and Allison asks if Carlos is really considering giving them yes days. Nando asks what a yes day is, and Katie says it's a day when parents get to say yes to everything their kids want. Nando and Ellie look excited, but Katie tells them not to be too happy because she's sure that their mom would never allow that to happen.

Allison asks why Katie said that, and she says it's because yes, days are usually fun, but she knows her mom to be a fun killer. She's fun. Allison looks disappointed and says she's heading to her room. Carlos doesn't look happy about this, and he tries to get the kids to apologize to their mom and tell her that she's fun, but Nando says he can't lie.

On the way to the room, Allison sees an old picture of herself skydiving and she remembers how fun she used to be. She then heads back down and says that her kids don't know how fun she used to be. Katie asks what changed and Allison says she had three kids who had to be kept safe. She adds that she can still be fun, but Katie doesn't believe this.

She also says that Allison won't even survive a yes morning, not to mention the whole day. Allison then asks if Katie would like to have a little wager on that. Katie says she doesn't mind and that if her mom says no on yes day, she'll go to the concert with Ila and without adults or parents. Allison agrees and Carlos asks if she's sure about it.

Allison says she is and that if she doesn't say no throughout the day, she'll go to the concert with Katie. Following this, Allison gives the kids some ground rules and informs them that the yes day has to be earned. She says that they have to do all their chores and finish their homework. She also says that they can't do anything dangerous or illegal and that they can't ask to travel about 20 miles away from home.

Any second, any second, any second, any second, any second. After the kids finish their chores and improve their grades at school, Allison and Carlos approve the yes day. The next morning, Nando is the first one to wake up and he looks really excited for the yes day. He then wakes his siblings and they head to their parents' room.

When they get there, they notice that Allison is already awake and hyped for the fun day. She also jumps on the bed and tells the kids to join her. Carlo still feels sleepy and he decides to call his colleagues at work to inform them that he won't be around for the day. However, the kids tell him that no one will get screen time today.

Carlos looks shocked, but asks to speak with his assistant for just one minute. While he's on the call, he barely says what he wants before Nando takes back the phone. Katie then mentions that it's time for Ellie to do Allison's makeup and pick the clothes that their parents will wear for the day. Ellie ends up choosing weird clothes for them and Nando shows his parents a list of five big asks that they have to make it through for the day to be a success.

Allison seems impressed and the kids tell her that the first place they're headed is an ice cream shop. Allison and Carlos look surprised because the kids want them to leave the house in weird clothes, but they don't complain because they can't say no. On the way to the ice cream shop, Allison asks why there's a lot of glitter around the last thing on the list, and the kids mention that it's the main event. Katie says she'll be at Fleekfest by then, and Allison mentions that she has already learned some songs by the show's headliner, Her.

Katie says Ila's cousin, Julie, is going to the concert with her and Ila. She adds that she has told Julie that there's an extra ticket for her. Allison finds this funny and tells her not to get Julie's hopes up because they had a bet and she's sure she'll win. Shortly after, they arrive at a Korean ice cream shop.

Nando orders a $40 ice cream called the Gutbuster, and Carlos looks shocked. How many people have lost their eyeballs? However, Nando mentions that if they can finish the ice cream in 30 minutes, it's free. Following this, the ice cream is brought to their table, and after a while, Carlos helps his family finish it.

He eventually feels weird after taking the ice cream, but he manages to avoid throwing up so that he won't have to pay the $40. After this, the kids tell their parents that it's time to go to the next place. They refuse to give much information about where they're going, and it eventually turns out to be a car wash. As the car is about to be washed, the kids insist that their parents have to put down the window.

Allison doesn't think this is a good idea and she asks Carlos what they should do. Carlos says it's her car and she's the one who has to decide. As Katie wonders if her mom will say no, Allison looks excited and tells the kids to put down the windows. They have a lot of fun while the car is being washed.

And after they're done there, the kids give their parents new clothes. Ooh, sorry, Dad. As Carlos sees that they all have different uniforms, he asks if they're starting a dance crew, but the kids just joke about it. After this, they stop at an adventure park where each member of the family gets to lead a team in a capture the flag competition.

Deacon happens to be the referee, and he says that Nando invited him. After the rules are explained, the game begins, and Allison's team captures the first flag. Nando and Katie seem impressed with how seriously their mom is taking the game. And even though they're on different teams, they decide to gang up against her.

Surprisingly, she outsmarts them and eliminates them before securing another flag to help her team win the game. Meanwhile, Carlos borrows someone's phone and calls his assistant to ask for an update on work. Unfortunately, things aren't going well, and Carlos complains about this. Almost immediately, Ellie sees Carlos with a phone, but he quickly hides it and says he wasn't using it.

Ellie doesn't believe him, but as she sees a baby chick on the ground, she tells her dad to put it back in the nest on a nearby tree. Oh, she fell out of her nest. Carlos doesn't seem sure about this, but Ellie encourages him to do it. After Carlos puts the chick back in the nest, the mother bird suddenly attacks him because she thinks he's trying to steal her baby.

Elsewhere, Allison tells Katie that she hopes her kids can see that she's not a fun killer. Katie still doesn't think her mom can get through the entire day without saying no. Before Allison can respond, she sees Carlos being attacked by birds and she goes to help him. Carlos is eventually taken to a hospital where a doctor mentions that he's fine.

Carlos then tells Allison that he thinks his body is done for the day. Allison says he can just rest while she leaves with the kids, but Carlos mentions that he might pop in at work to see how things are going. Allison looks shocked when she hears this and she realizes that he was only lying about being tired because he wants to go to work. She says he can tell the kids himself and that it's his turn to be the bad guy.

As Allison angrily heads out, she sees a paramedic named Jean who asks what's wrong. Allison complains about how her husband wants to ruin what has been a perfect day. And Jean says she shouldn't have to force anyone to change. She adds that it's either Carlos joins the party or gets left behind.

Almost immediately, Carlos heads out with the kids and says he wants to speak with Allison. He then apologizes for what happened earlier, but she says he can either join the party or miss out. Before he can say anything else, she turns to the kids and suggests going to Magic Mountain for the fourth event. The kids look excited, but Allison says there's something Carlos wants to tell them before they go.

Carlos feels bad about having to leave the kids, and he changes his mind about going to work. The kids look excited and as they wonder how they'll get to Magic Mountain because their car is still at the adventure park, Gene offers to take them there in an ambulance. Allison and her family don't have a problem with this, and Jean drops them off at the park. After having fun for a while, Allison and Katie sit together.

Katie then says it's really nice to be out of the house with everyone. Allison says they should do it more often because Katie is getting older and she agrees. As Katie leaves to get herself some cotton candy, she accidentally drops her phone and Allison sees her texts with Ila, who has sent a picture of two boys that Julie is going to hook them up with at Fleekfest. Allison looks disappointed and immediately tells Katie to text Ila, saying that Julie is not taking them to Fleekfest.

Katie looks confused, but Allison says that Julie is trying to hook Katie and Ila up with strangers. Katie realizes that her mom checked her phone, but Allison says she wasn't even trying to do that. Katie thinks Allison is overreacting, and she tells Carlos to back her up, but he doesn't say anything. Allison then mentions that she won't let Katie go to the concert if she's not taking her.

Katie looks pissed and says she's done with Yes Day, but Allison mentions that she's grounded. Katie cannot believe this and she says she really shouldn't have thought that her mom could change. But it was right there and there was a picture of a boy. Allison says she's just being a good parent, but Katie doesn't believe this.

She says she doesn't need her mom anymore and that Allison can't just handle it. Carlos immediately interrupts her and tells her to take her younger siblings to the carousel. While the kids are there, Nando and Ellie look excited and mention that today is the best day of their lives. Katie seems tired of this and tells her siblings that the yes day is just a big con by their parents because they'll never change.

Nando and Ellie don't care about this and they playfully mention that they hope they get conned for the rest of their lives. Elsewhere, Allison laments that she hates it when Katie hates her. Carlos says Katie doesn't hate her, but she doesn't believe this. She says she just hopes Katie realizes that everything she does is from a place of love.

Before Carlos can say anything, Allison sees a pink gorilla that Katie had as a baby. She says she'll win it for Katie again, but Carlos tries to talk her out of it. Allison doesn't listen to him, and she competes with a woman named Tara, who also wants the gorilla. Allison eventually wins the contest, but Tara refuses to accept that she lost.

As they fight about this, Carlos tries to defend his wife, but the cops soon arrive to arrest the three of them. The kids are also taken to the police station and an officer named Jones keeps them company. In the holding cell, Carlos apologizes to Allison for everything that has happened and he says that all he has ever done is to make her do the hard stuff. He says she needs a partner and that's what he'll be from now on.

Allison looks happy and thanks him for this. Elsewhere, Katie tells Jones that her grandparents are around to pick her and her siblings up. Jones allows them to leave, but it turns out that Katie lied, and it's actually Leila and Julie who are around to pick them up. Ellie and Nando don't seem sure about abandoning their parents and leaving with strangers, but Katie says that the yes day must go on.

After this, Leila and Julie drop them off at home, and Katie notices that Nando has ordered a few things that have just been delivered to the house. Nando then mentions that the main event is a nerd party and it's totally safe. As he starts setting up the party with his friends, Katie gets ready to leave for Fleekfest with Ila. Suddenly, Katie says she can't go anymore because she doesn't want to leave her siblings alone at home.

Nando and Ellie assure her that they'll be fine, and Katie tells Nando to text her if anything goes wrong. He says he will, and Katie leaves with Ila and Julie. Back at the police station, Carlos and Allison are released and Jones informs them that the kids have left with their grandparents. Carlos and Allison look shocked because the grandparents in question actually live in a different city.

Jones cannot believe this and he realizes that the kids tricked him. After they figure out that Nando is hosting a nerd party at home, this is a girl who is angry with her mother. Carlos suggests splitting up because he knows that Katie must have gone to Fleekfest. He says he'll go home to check up on the kids while Allison goes to the concert to find Katie.

Allison asks if he's sure that he wants to go home because he'll have to be the bad guy to the kids. Carlos says he knows and that he'll do it. Meanwhile, at Fleekfest, Julie introduces Ila and Katie to two boys. Much later, Jones drives Allison to Fleekfest, and on the way, she laments that Katie shouldn't have gone to the concert alone because she didn't say no at all on Yes Day.

Elsewhere, Ila tells Katie to join her and the boys inside a tent. Katie thinks it's too risky because they have only just met the boys, but Ila tells her not to be lame. As they head toward the tent, Katie stops and says she's not going. Ila then goes into the tent alone and Katie starts regretting her decision to attend the concert without her mom.

And that's her. Oh my gosh, it's her. Look at her. As she also tries to call her brother to confirm that things are okay at home, her phone goes off and she starts going around to ask if anyone has a charger. Back at the house, Nando's guests start scattering the living room and making a mess, and he looks annoyed.

He tries to warn them to stop scattering the house, but they don't listen to him. As he then heads to his room to check up on his big science project that he wants to show off at the party, he sees that Ellie is about to set it off by adding a catalyst. He begs her not to do it, but she accidentally drops the catalyst into the solution to form a foam bomb. The foam bomb spreads to the living room, and one of the kids at the party also creates more by pouring the catalyst into the water closets in the house.

Nando looks shocked and realizes that the decision to host a nerd party was a bad idea. Back at Fleekfest, Jones and Allison arrive and start looking around for Katie. When they don't see her, Allison suggests going on stage to make an announcement. Jones thinks it's a bad idea, but he eventually follows her backstage.

Yes Day (2021) Ending Explained

There they see h eer asking if there's a seamstress who can help her sew the torn part of her shirt. Allison quickly offers to help because she has a sewing kit and she tells Her that she and her daughter are huge fans. Her thanks Allison for helping, but Allison asks if the singer can also help her with something. Elsewhere, Carlos arrives home and sees the mess that the kids made.

He immediately stops the party and instructs all the kids to start cleaning up the house. At Fleekfest, Katie is still trying to look for a charger, but someone just throws her phone away. Katie looks disappointed because she doesn't understand why the person did that and she starts looking for her phone. Meanwhile, Her allows Allison to go on stage to make the announcement.

Allison initially looks scared, but when she gets on stage, she decides not to call Katie's name so that her daughter won't feel embarrassed. So, if you if you hear my voice, she then sings a song that Katie liked singing with her in the past. As Katie feels sad about losing her phone, she suddenly hears her mom's voice and runs to where Allison can see her. Allison looks happy when she sees Katie, and she runs off the stage to meet her daughter, who apologizes and calls her the best mom in the world.

After this, Her calls both of them back on stage to sing with her, and they look very happy. Back at the house, Carlos supervises the kids and makes sure that they clean the house very well. Nando then mentions that his dad looked a bit scary when he came back. Carlos says he just has to put his foot down sometimes, even though he loves his kids.

Nando says he understands and that he has always wondered if his dad doesn't have it in him to be strict. Almost immediately, Katie and Allison arrive and Ellie runs to meet her mom. Katie then scolds Nando for not texting her, but Carlos says it's her fault for leaving the kids alone. The whole thing.

The whole thing. The whole column. Katie admits that she shouldn't have gone to the concert and she says she was worried sick while she was there. After she walks away with Nando, Carlos tells Allison that being a bad guy isn't really hard. Allison also says she can't wait for the next yes day, but Ellie mentions that the day isn't over yet and there's still something she wants to do.

Following this, they all head to the tent in the backyard to play games and have fun. While they're playing, Carlos asks if Nando got rid of all the catalyst, and he says he just flushed it down the toilet. Suddenly, they all hear a strange sound, and it turns out that Nando's foam bomb is starting to fill the house again. After Allison learns that her kids think she can't be fun, she decides to prove them wrong by giving them a yes day.

Everything goes well at first, but when the kids are left alone for a while, they realize that their mom's strictness comes from a place of love. In this story, we learn that love sometimes means saying no.
