A 13-year-old boy suddenly gains the ability to see mystery creatures lurking in the shadows. At first, he thinks it’s a gift, but soon, he realizes they aren’t just watching him, they’re following him.
‘SPOILER ALERT’
A little girl named Kelly is lying in her room during a thunderstorm and is startled by eerie noises in her room, which is decorated to the brim with toys of different textures and sizes.
Meanwhile, a white teddy bear in a basket blinks like a human being. She struggles to fall asleep, and the wind gusts into her room, scattering some of her drawings on the wall. Meanwhile, her babysitter is down the stairs in the same house on her phone, making popcorn. She complains to her friend about the girl she is babysitting having difficulty falling asleep. In the bedroom, her closet creaks open, and her bedroom door slams shut, drawing the attention of the babysitter. ,
The little girl, frightened, looks under her bed to see if there is anything there, she gets out of bed, shuts her closet door, and runs back into bed. She stares at a toy dinosaur sitting on a rocking chair in her room, she looks away and when she looks back, the dinosaur is no longer on the chair but on her nightstand. It roars at her, and she gasps and moves away. Her closet door creaks open once again and begins emitting smoke, a mysterious man opens the door with his two hands from inside with long fingers. He calls her name, and she is startled awake in the middle of a math class, years later.
Her teacher scolds her for sleeping in class, he tells her that even though she is a math prodigy, she doesn’t have the right to sleep in his class. He then gives her a marker to solve the question on the whiteboard. He throws the marker to her and it is caught by a boy sitting behind her who she seemingly has a crush on, her teacher snaps her out of her daze and she sits in her chair and provides the answer in under a few seconds, her teacher doubts her and one of the ‘queen bees’ mocks her. Kelly Ferguson is a high school student. The bell signaling the end of the class rings, and everyone rushes out of class.
Out in the hallway, she looks overwhelmed by the crowd and some students make jest of her calling her, ‘monster girl’. She meets up with her best friend about the name other students call her. He tells her that she was the one who cried wolf when they were younger by saying she saw a monster in her room. As they discuss further, a student named Jesper is in a small tussle with the teacher because he broke school rules by wearing a Halloween costume to school. He proceeds to announce a costume party at his house later that night. Her best friend tells her that they have to attend the party, and she hesitates until she sees her crush talking to the queen bee. And then she decides that she will attend the party.
As she walks home from school, people are out and about putting up Halloween decorations outside their house while she, oblivious to everything, works on a small tech project. At home, she sits at her table working on a costume when her mother walks into her room and tells her that she has to babysit her boss’ child, she tries to protest but her mother pleads with her and she finds herself walking to the boss, Mrs. Zelman’s house.
A lady dressed in an ice queen costume opens the door and invites her into the house. She begins giving her absurd rules on how to handle her child, like, the boy shouldn’t have more than 30 minutes of screen time, dried fruit as candy, and no trick-or-treaters allowed. The rule that shocks Kelly is the fact that it takes three hours of preparation to get the boy ready for bed. The lady takes Kelly upstairs to meet the boy, Jacob. The boy sits in a fort at the edge of his room and pleads with his mother not to go.
They go back downstairs and the lady leaves them in the house stating that she will be back at midnight sharp. Kelly wanders back into the house and then she hears a clattering noise which she follows to the kitchen, where she sees Jacob stuffing his face with candy and scolds him for it. He runs away from her, and she begins chasing him.
A few hours later when Jacob is fully prepared for bed, he tells Kelly that he cannot sleep because he has bad nightmares which bring monsters to life, he shows her a drawing of a tentacle and tells her that it comes out of his fish tank at night. She reassures him and tells him that she suffered the same thing when she was younger.
She uses his toys to tickle him and when she holds up a half-burnt teddy bear, he begins whimpering and says that he dreamt that the teddy bear was on fire and when he woke up, it was. She helps him check under his bed and his closet. As she tries to turn off the light and leave the room, he asks her to leave the lights on. She gives him a night light she made and leaves the room.
Downstairs, she video chats with her best friend Tommy, who updates her on everything happening at the party that she is missing, Tommy begins to talk to a girl and she gets off the phone with him. She is excited to take care of Jacob, a quiet and awkward 7-year-old boy. However, Kelly soon discovers that Jacob’s house is a hub for paranormal activity.
Meanwhile, in Jacobs’s room, his toys begin to come to life, a robot toy points at him and starts whirring the word, ‘enemy’. The closet door opens and smoke starts to come out of it, and a voice is heard singing a song. A hand comes out of the closet with long fingers holding the door open. The night light falls out of his hand. The man congratulates Jacob on his ability to bring dreams to life, and he begins to stamp his foot on the ground. Kelly hears the noise and runs up the stairs.
On getting there, she sees a figure under the blanket and stalks towards it. She opens it up and then sees a short blue monster with scattered unlevelled teeth and scanty hair on its head there, the monster screams and sees her, it runs towards the closet and she sees Jacob being put in a sack by two other monsters, one green and one yellow. She takes a night lamp and tries to hit one of the monsters, the blue monster bites the night lamp and starts tugging it with Kelly. The monsters take Jacob jump into a hole and close the hole.
She goes outside the house and tries calling 911, but the police believe that she is trying to play a prank on them. As Kelly is trying to navigate the strange occurrences, a female babysitter arrives at the house. She introduces herself as the vice president of the Babysitter’s Council, a secret organization dedicated to protecting kids from monsters. A girl with a baby strapped to her and a scooter and she tells Kelly that her name is Liz. She tells her that she is part of a secret association of babysitters. And tells her that they had a nightmare ping from that house. She goes into the house and begins questioning Kelly, Kelly describes the monsters to her and then shows her a drawing Jacob made of them and Liz calls them ‘toadies’. She turns off the light and turns on the infrared light and sees a writing on the wall that says, ‘ The time of nightmares has begun’. She goes back on her bike and she sets out with Kelly and the baby, Carmella on the back.
Liz talks into her earphones and she is given intel by someone on the phone and they go to a kid’s arcade called Sharkie Park. They go in and search for a tunnel created by the toadies, they come across one at the end of a children’s swing. Liz gives Kelly a book titled, ‘a babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting’.
She puts Carmella on the floor near the swing and pours baby powder around her, then she pours baby powder around the tunnel too and they go into hiding. Liz tells Kelly that toadies cannot resist the smell of newborn babies. Soon enough, the blue Toadie comes out and stalks towards Carmella. Kelly gets scared for Carmella’s safety and goes to carry her which alerts the other toadies who run back into the tunnel. The trap they set catches the blue Toadie, and she puts Carmella in a safe place.
The Toadie frees itself from the trap and begins to chase Kelly around while Liz tries to rescue Jacob from the other Toadies to no avail. She decides to jump into the ball pit and the Toadie jumps in with her. As the toadie is about to catch up with her, Liz catches it and then proceeds to struggle to stuff it into a bag. Meanwhile, Kelly gets a call from Jacob’s mother who she lies to that she is with Jacob who is asleep. When she finally gets off the phone with Jacob’s mother and Liz has put the toadie in the bag, they leave the children’s park.
Elsewhere, the other two toadies take Jacob to the headquarters of the man who haunted Jacob. The man tells Jacob his plan to use his nightmares and put them in a tank to spread real-life nightmares into the world.
Kelly and Liz drop Carmella off with her parents while the man puts Jacob in a bed and tries to get him to fall asleep but it does not work. Liz takes Kelly to the headquarters of their babysitter’s chapter. Kelly is listening in awe as Liz is explaining that monsters are real and that they are a threat to kids everywhere. The babysitters are handing Kelly a folder filled with information about the different types of monsters that exist.
As Kelly is flipping through the folder, she sees pictures of giant spiders, werewolves, and other terrifying creatures. She is starting to feel overwhelmed but is determined to learn more.
There they meet two girls and a boy named Curtis, who introduce themselves and tell her what they do. A girl named Berna searches the ouch of the toadie and brings out the things in its pouch. Liz welcomes Kelly to the Rhode Chapter of the Order of Babysitters with Kelly dumbfounded.
Liz states that all the babysitters lived here. Liz warns Kelly to not tell anyone about the location or else she will feed her to their resident hobgoblin. The leader of the group, Liz, explains to Kelly that Jacob is a special kid with a unique gift. He can see and communicate with monsters, which makes him a target for supernatural creatures.
Liz tells the team that their mission is Jacob Zelman, five years old and most probably has the gift and they have three hours and five minutes until his mom gets back. They take the toadie and begin to search the pouch of the toadie. They begin to question Kelly and they spray her with a potion which makes her say everything she remembers.
She begins to tell them everything she remembers. As she sings the song she heard as a child the book that holds all the information that a babysitter may need begins to flip its pages and then stops at the grand Guignol which they call the stealer of dreams and the bringer of nightmares. Kelly recognizes it as the man who tried to take her when she was a child.
Liz gets scared and walks away to take a seat. They talk about the boogie monsters, seven of them who are like a monster mafia. Kelly is startled by the revelation, she says that her whole life she has been told that what happened to her as a child was a lie. All the members of the babysitter’s bureau tell Kelly about their experiences with their nightmares.
They make up their mind to ensure that other children do not go through what they went through. They begin showing her their facilities. Kelly is initially skeptical, but she soon finds herself reading books about all sorts of monsters. There are giant spiders, werewolves, and even a dragon or two. Kelly is forced to swallow down her fear and anxiety to be able to defend herself and Jacob.
As Kelly is working with the Babysitter’s Council, she is also learning more about the supernatural world. She discovers that there are all sorts of monsters and creatures lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce. Kelly is also learning about the different types of monsters and how to defeat them. She discovers that each monster has its unique weaknesses and strengths and that the key to defeating them is to use the right strategy and tactics.
They put a bunch of weapons in a bag, but before they can make a move. The Toadie takes the bag and swallows everything in the bag. Kelly screams and tries to run after the toadie, but it escapes. They bring out a tracker and say that it was a trap for the toadie for them to be able to track it. They follow the tracker.
The Toadie vomits the trash it swallowed and calls the grand guignol and tells him that the kids gave him a tracker. He tells the Toadie where to throw the tracker and continues giving Jacob milk to make him sleep.
The location the man gave the Toadie happens to be the house where the party that she missed is taking place. When they get there, Kelly is embarrassed and scared to go into the house, and Liz gives her a pep talk. She tells her that she is smart and shouldn’t feel less than because of some cat-dressed queen bee.
As they walk inside the house, she comes across her crush Victor and they talk for a while. They go inside and go into the closet that the tracker follows. At first, when they open it, they do not see anything, but after a few seconds, They go there and encounter a shadow monster that only comes where there is no light. As the toadie, hiding in a laundry basket hears this, it launches out of the basket and begins biting the electrical wires to cut off the light of the whole house and runs out the window.
Liz follows the Toadie while Kelly looks around for a torch to make the shadow monster hide. She goes downstairs to the party and meets her crush Victor and then they engage in a conversation until she sees someone going up the stairs and rushes to help the person. She is shocked after she sees, victor her crush, upstairs, who tries to talk to her but she gives him a torch and locks him in a room, her torch fails her so she runs towards the balcony inside the house and asks all the partygoers to take a picture of her.
The shadow monster chases her and she jumps down the balcony and the flash from their cameras chases the monster back in. Some of the partygoers post the pictures they took of her and post them on Instagram, her mother sees them and calls her. She begins to lie to her parents, who then begin tracking her phone. Liz tells Cassie to hack into her parent’s phone which she does. It makes Kelly look as though she is still in Mrs. Zelman’s house.
The grand guignol still tries to get Jacob to sleep and then he comes up with a plan and then asks one of the toadies to watch him. She decides to follow the instructions of her colleagues, who ask her to get a cat eyes amulet. They tell her to go get a cat eyes amulet, and they ask her to go to the house of a lady called the cat lady. They sneak into her house to meet her.
As Kelly is battling the monsters, she is also learning more about the Babysitter’s Council. She discovers that the group is made up of babysitters from all over the city, each with their unique skills and abilities. The Babysitter’s Council is led by Liz, a tough and experienced babysitter who has been fighting monsters for years.
Liz is aided by her team of babysitters, each with their specialty. There’s Berna, an expert in hand-to-hand combat; Cassie, a skilled driver and mechanic; and Curtis, a tech-savvy babysitter who can hack into any computer system.
Together, the Babysitter’s Council is a formidable force against the monsters. They use their skills and abilities to protect kids like Jacob, who are vulnerable to supernatural creatures. On their way sneaking in, Liz tells Kelly that her brother Kevin was taken by the grand Guignol. She tells Kelly that her brother was five while she was six, she tells her that the boogeyman came to their house and sang the song for them and she slept off, he took her brother and she has not seen him since then, she blames herself for his disappearance. She appreciates Kelly for listening to her.
They go over their plan one more time. But then they encounter the cat lady who welcomes them and tells them she has been expecting them. Liz begins to choke and faints. The boogeyman asks Kelly if she thought that she killed him. Then Kelly has flashbacks of when she was younger and he defeated her babysitter and she helped to make him explode. The boogeyman makes a trade, he gives the cat lady Liz and then takes the amulet. As Kelly reaches to catch the boogeyman, he disappears, but she manages to grasp onto a piece of glass on his cloth.
The cat lady sets her cats loose to go after Kelly, but Kelly distracts them with laser pointers. She informs Berna and Curtis about what happened with the boogey man and cat lady and they track the piece of glass to where it’s from. She goes to the squeaking lighthouse they direct her to.
As they are walking through the city, Kelly is seeing all sorts of monsters lurking in the shadows. She is seeing giant spiders, werewolves, and even a dragon or two. But Kelly is not afraid, knowing that she has the training and the support of the babysitters to back her up.
Meanwhile, the boogeyman is using the cat’s eye amulet to hypnotize Jacob to go to sleep and the dreams begin to flow into the machine which he created for storing them. Kelly on the other hand stands outside the abandoned lighthouse. She takes the fraying wool off her sweater and then uses it to leave a trail in case she doesn’t return. Curtis tries to create the potion but fails. The boogeyman goes to torment Liz in the cage he placed her in. Kelly finally manages to sneak into the lighthouse and then she sees the places where the boogeyman is storing Jacob’s bad dreams.
Mrs Zelman has a bad feeling about Jacob and leaves the party immediately. As Kelly finally sees Jacob, she encounters the boogeyman and his toadies. The toadies try to lock her in a cage but she decides to try and make a trade with them because she remembers where Liz told her that toadies love to trade for shiny things.
She brings out a piece of glass and tries to trade with them but then they show her their pieces of glass from their pouches. She then tricks that she has another thing to trade but instead brings out weapons, traps one Toadie, makes one swallow an explosive teddy bear, and kicks one into a pit.
In headquarters, Curtis finally finishes up the angel fire, but then the lights go off then Curtis and the girls realize that the shadow monster is around them. They come up with a plan. They give the angel fire to Cassie, who sneaks up the trash chute while Curtis and Berna lure the shadow monster.
Kelly gets startled by Liz who takes her in the opposite direction claiming that that is where Jacob is. Liz tries to lock her in a cage, she realizes that she has been hypnotized by the boogeyman. They fight and Liz locks Kelly in a cage but Kelly shocks her with a weapon and Liz passes out and comes back to her senses. They go to find Jacob.
In the headquarters, they manage to use a rope light to trap the shadow monster in the box. Kelly and Liz finally come up with a plan to trick the boogeyman. The boogeyman talks about his sister, the spider woman who is the queen of the dark realm and always makes fun of him. He begins to rejoice and make plans with the dreams he has released by saying that once he has the nightmares and dreams as his army, he will overrule his sister and become the king of the dark realm.
Liz, who the boogeyman thinks is still under his hypnosis tells the boogeyman that there is something wrong with one of his machines, while he goes to check it Kelly sneaks on the top of the machines but the smell of Kelly’s fear alerts him of her presence and he picks their plan apart. Cassie, one of their friends from the HQ, arrives and helps them to defeat the boogeyman.
The battle is intense and chaotic, with monsters and babysitters fighting all around. Kelly is using her agility and quick thinking to dodge the Grand Guignol’s attacks. Liz is using her martial arts skills to take down the Grand Guignol’s minions. The other babysitters are using their unique abilities to help take down the monster.
As the battle rages on, Kelly is starting to feel exhausted. She is realizing that taking down the Grand Guignol is not going to be easy. But Kelly is refusing to give up. She is using every last bit of energy to fight the Grand Guignol. The babysitters are fighting alongside her, using all of their skills and knowledge to take down the monster.
Kelly’s newfound confidence is put to the test as she and the Babysitter’s Council face off against the Grand Guignol, a powerful and evil monster who is determined to destroy Jacob. Kelly and the Babysitter’s Council are using all of their skills and abilities to try and defeat the monster.
However, the Grand Guignol is a formidable foe, and it seems like it may be too powerful for them to defeat. As Cassie tosses the angel fire to Kelly, the grand guignol, also called the boogeyman, catches it and mocks them. He tosses it up and down, using it to tease Kelly, Cassie, and Liz.
Just when it seems like all hope is lost, Kelly comes up with a plan. She uses her quick thinking and resourcefulness to outsmart the Grand Guignol and defeat it.
She catches the potion that Curtis, the angel fire, made and she gives it to them to use to destroy the boogeyman he tries to free the monsters and stamps his feet but Kelly takes the potion and stabs it into his heart using a technique in the book called the monster punch.
He coughs and splutters and calls her a loser, she tells him to call her monster girl and he explodes. Finally, after what seems like an eternity, the Grand Guignol is defeated. Kelly and the babysitters are standing victorious, exhausted but triumphant.
They go to rescue Jacob and he gets scared but they reassure him and they are confused as to why the monsters of his dreams are still around. They ask him to open the vault of his nightmare, as he opens it, his dreams seem as though they want to overwhelm him but he overcomes his fears and sends the monsters away.
As the night comes to a close, Kelly realizes that she has learned something valuable. She has learned that she is capable of more than she ever thought possible. Kelly is also realizing that being a babysitter is not just about watching kids. It is about protecting them from harm and keeping them safe.
As Kelly walks Jacob back to his bedroom, she feels a sense of pride and purpose. She knows that she has found a new family, a group of brave and dedicated babysitters who will stand by her side no matter what dangers lie ahead. She puts Jacob to bed, and he asks her to check under the bed and inside the closet.

And as Kelly is looking to the future, she knows that she will always be ready to face whatever challenges come her way. She is a brave and resourceful babysitter, and she is ready for whatever the supernatural world throws her way.
Mrs. Zelman gets home and meets her son, who is asleep in bed.
Liz drops Kelly at home and tells her that she is now a sitter in training.
As Kelly gets into bed, she gets a call from her crush, Victor, who asks her if they can go see a movie; she immediately obliges. Then she begins to read about their next threat, a spider woman, half spider, half human, the boogeyman’s sister.
