Dragon Girl (2020) Full Recap
In an old cave in Norway, a dragon suddenly breaks out and starts flying toward the nearest town called Borington. There, a boy named Mortimer records a video for his YouTube channel. In an attempt to make his video engaging so he can get some likes and subscribers, Mortimer decides to attempt a popular rackfisk challenge. As Mortimer opens a can of rackfish, which is a popular Norwegian delicacy, he looks disgusted and doesn't seem interested in trying it.
However, since he's desperate for likes, he decides to take one bite. Just as he does this, he suddenly gets the urge to throw up. And even though he tries to hold it in, he eventually lets it out into a small waste bin near his table. Almost immediately, his mom comes into his room and sees him throwing up.
She looks concerned because her son has been spending a lot of time on his computer, but Mortimer mentions that he really needs the likes. His mom still seems bothered by this, but she tells him to make sure his obsession with his computer doesn't affect his studies. 100%. The next day, a girl named Sarah walks around the neighborhood and sees a house with a full mailbox. Since this implies that the owner of the house is not around, Sarah looks around carefully before breaking in.
After she enters the house, she realizes that the owner has gone to Thailand for Christmas. She looks happy about this and decides to stay in the house for a while. Sarah also closes all the curtains and arranges some small toys near a shed that she has just made. She then mentions that they'll stay in the house for Christmas and that no one will be able to find them.
Elsewhere at school, Mortimer joins his classmates in singing a Christmas song with their teacher. Shortly after, a police officer comes in and tells the teacher that he wants to speak to the kids. He then tells them that the police are currently looking for a young girl about their age who has been breaking into people's houses and living there while the owners are away. As he shows them the girl's picture, he says that she always takes small toys from the houses before leaving.
He adds that he's not trying to accuse the kids of having anything to do with the girl, but that he wants them to say something if they've seen her before. Just then, Mortimer asks where the girl came from, but the officer doesn't say anything about this. Shortly after, the school bell rings and Mortimer records a video with his phone while pretending to be a reporter for MTV. He then talks about a criminal being on the loose in Borrington and he says he'll try to get a statement from the police officer who came to the school.
Almost immediately, he stops the officer and asks for a statement. The officer looks confused by this, and he tells Mortimer that it's a crime to film a cop on duty without permission. He also collects Mortimer's phone and asks for his name. After Mortimer says his name, the officer returns his phone and leaves the premises.
Mortimer looks disappointed that he didn't get a statement from the cop for his video, and some of his classmates insult him. One of them also makes fun of his channel and says that Mortimer doesn't have any subscribers or likes. He also throws a folded piece of paper at Mortimer before walking away with his friends. Mortimer doesn't like this, but he suddenly hears an announcement telling him to report to the principal's office.
Elsewhere, Sarah walks around the house and sees the family photos of the owners. She then says she's only borrowing their house and she's not going to ruin anything. As she also mentions that she once had a family, she heads to the kitchen to check the fridge to see if there's something she can eat. Suddenly, she hears the sound of broken glass in the basement and she looks shocked.
She then heads to the basement and sees that something just broke in through the small window. As she wonders what it is, she hears some strange sounds and assumes that it's a cat. Almost immediately, she finds where the animal is hiding, and she heads back to the kitchen to check the fridge for some food. She then takes a hot dog back to the basement and uses it to set a trap to catch the cat.
Meanwhile, Mortimer gets to the principal's office and sees the principal wearing a dragon mask. As the man then tries to scare Mortimer, he doesn't seem moved, and it turns out that the principal is Mortimer's dad. After he takes off the mask, he looks excited and asks what Mortimer thinks about it. Mortimer doesn't seem interested in this, and his dad says he knows how his son doesn't like to mix work and family.
He also mentions that he just wants to ask Mortimer for a favor. As Mortimer looks confused, his dad says that his friends are coming over in a few minutes and that they'll be doing a little role-playing. He adds that he just wants to know if Mortimer can help feed their neighbor on Fininsson's goldfish. He says that Aronfinson still wants the fish to be fed while he's away and that he really cares about it.
Mortimer then agrees to do it and his dad promises to pay him. Mortimer eventually negotiates a higher price and his dad agrees. He then tells Mortimer not to tell his mom about what he's doing at the school because she doesn't really understand how much he enjoys role- playinging with his fellow comic book lovers. Mortimer says he won't say anything and his dad gives him the key to Arnfinson's house.
Elsewhere, Sarah suddenly hears a sound in the basement indicating that her trap has caught the cat. Let's go ahead and she then heads down there and notices that the creature in the basement isn't sounding like a cat. As she tries to see what's inside the trap, she puts a hockey stick into the hole, but the creature tries to drag it from her. Sarah looks shocked by this, but as she pulls the stick back, she notices that the curved end is now burnt.
This leaves Sarah confused, and as she looks into the hole, she sees the creature's strange eyes and gets scared. She then runs back to the living room to pack her things. While she's at it, she hears the creature sounding uncomfortable and scared, and she decides to check up on it again. [groaning] When she gets to the basement, the creature still remains in the dark part of the hole, and Sarah is unable to see it clearly. She then heads back up to find some food to lure the creature out of the hole.
As she grabs something from the fridge, she suddenly hears keys jingling and realizes that there's someone at the door. This leaves her shocked, but she quickly hides behind the kitchen table because she doesn't want anyone to see her. Almost immediately, Mortimer enters the house and it turns out that Sarah is inside Arfinson's house. Mortimer then drops his phone on the table before going to feed Arfinson's goldfish.
After doing this, he leaves the house and Sarah looks relieved. When Mortimer arrives home, he goes to his room and sees that his recent video has two negative comments and no likes. Interestingly, it turns out that the comments are from the bullies in Mortimer's class, and he looks disappointed. He then heads down to the living room, and as his mom notices that he's looking sad, she asks what's wrong.
Mortimer says he still doesn't have likes on his videos, and his mom tells him not to be bothered about it. Elsewhere, Sarah takes the food down to the basement, and as she puts it in front of the hole, the creature quickly grabs it. Sarah looks shocked by this, but almost immediately she notices that the hole lights up when the creature belches. Sarah doesn't seem to get this, but she just extends her hand out while sitting in front of the hole.
Just then, the creature slowly comes out of it, and Sarah realizes that it's a dragon. Despite this, she remains very calm, and the dragon allows her to touch its head. As she's about to touch its injured wings, the dragon gets defensive, but Sarah says she only wants to check it out. The dragon then calms down, and Sarah says she's going upstairs to see if she can find something to fix the injured wings.
Meanwhile, Mortimer's dad arrives home and tells his wife that he had to stay back at the school because he had a meeting with the fire department. Mortimer knows that his dad is lying, but he just plays along without saying anything to his mom. Shortly after, Mortimer says he would like to take a picture of his parents because he thinks they're looking great. Mortimer's parents don't seem to have a problem with this.
But as he checks his pocket for his phone, he realizes that he forgot it at Arnfinson's house. Just then, he excuses himself and returns to Arnfinson's house to grab his phone. When he gets there, he sees Sarah in the kitchen and looks shocked. Sarah also looks scared when she sees him, but she just remains silent.
As Mortimer then wonders how she got into the house, he asks if she knows Arfinson. Sarah doesn't know what to say, but Mortimer suddenly recognizes her as the girl in the picture that the police officer talked about. As he calls her a thief, Sarah says she's not, but Mortimer doesn't believe her. After he grabs his phone, he decides to call the cops, but Sarah begs him not to do that.
He then asks for one good reason why he shouldn't call the cops, and Sarah says she'll tell him a secret that no one else knows. Mortimer seems interested in this, and Sarah takes him to the basement. When they get there, Sarah doesn't see the dragon in the hole, and Mortimer thinks she was just messing with him. However, Sarah tells him to turn slowly, and as he does this, he sees the dragon.
Mortimer looks terrified and nearly screams, but Sarah stops him. The dragon also appears to be nervous, and Sarah tells Mortimer to calm down. After this, Mortimer asks where Sarah found the dragon and if it's hers. Sarah says it is and Mortimer looks amazed by this as he then tries to record a video while saying that the dragon will get him a lot of likes.
Sarah stops him and snatches his phone. Mortimer says he just needs a short video and that they could become very famous. Sarah refuses to let him do this and she mentions that if Mortimer posts a video of her and the dragon, they'll be exposed and caught by the cops. Mortimer then promises not to say anything about what he saw and Sarah returns his phone before he leaves.
When Mortimer gets home, he starts thinking about making a video to talk about the dragon. After a while, Mortimer records the video, but he only mentions that he has just found something sensational. He adds that it's still a secret because he doesn't know what would happen if the world found out about his discovery. Hello.
He also mentions that he'll continue posting updates about the situation as things develop. Back at Arfinson's house, Sarah takes care of the dragon's injured wings, and she eventually heads back upstairs to sleep. However, the dragon follows her there. And as Sarah allows it to stay next to her, she promises to continue taking care of it.
The next morning, Mortimer heads downstairs and sees his dad working on a decoration for Christmas. As he asks about dragons, his dad looks amazed because it's a topic he has always wanted to talk to his son about. His dad then mentions that dragons are often misunderstood. He adds that they're actually shy and they rarely reveal themselves to humans.
He also says that seeing a dragon would be sensational, but that people always hunt them because they're dangerous creatures. Mortimer then asks if he can borrow his dad's books on dragons. He offers to feed Arn Fininsson's goldfish for a week in return, but his dad just looks proud to see that his son is interested in his books. After he gives Mortimer a few books from his shelf, he also adds a bigger one to the collection and mentions that it contains things people won't find online.
Mortimer thanks his dad for the books and he heads to Aron Fininsson's house to meet Sarah. As they go through the books together, they figure out that some mountains have secret portals that lead to the dragon's world. They also discover that while many of the portals have been forgotten or lost, there are still a few that exist. Sarah also reads a part about dragons coming into the world and granting wishes to whoever helps them.
Mortimer looks amazed by this, and he says he'd wish for a thousand likes. Sarah doesn't get this, but he explains that the likes will boost his channel and make him popular. Sarah finds this weird, and she wonders why Mortimer would wish for likes, even though he can't really do anything with them, as she says that he can't talk to them or eat with them. Mortimer finds this funny, and they both laugh about it.
Mortimer then properly introduces himself to her, and she also tells him her name. Almost immediately, they hear a strange sound in the basement, and they decide to check out what's happening. When they get there, they see that the dragon has pooped in the basement, and they look shocked. While Sarah is cleaning it up, Mortimer checks his time and tells her that he has to go home because they're making Christmas cookies today.
He invites Sarah to come with him if she wants, and he mentions that his dad is cool. Sarah initially seems open to following him home, but she eventually says that she has to stay back to watch the dragon. After this, Mortimer heads home to bake the cookies with his parents. Interestingly, Sarah secretly follows Mortimer and hides outside his house to look at him and his family.
As she sees them having fun together, she looks sad because they remind her of her family. Later that night, Mortimer checks his channel and notices that he has 95 likes on his last video. He also sees some comments asking about his secret, and he records another video to inform his viewers that he'll give them an update on the situation when he gets 1,000 likes. The next morning, Sarah wakes up and realizes that the dragon isn't next to her.
As she looks for it, she notices that Arfinson's goldfish is missing. This leaves her shocked and as she wonders if the dragon took it, Mortimer arrives. He then notices that she's nervous. And as he asks what's wrong, he realizes that the goldfish is missing. Almost immediately, they see the dragon eating the goldfish and Mortimer looks pissed as he shouts at the dragon and goes toward it.
Sarah pulls him back. However, the dragon already feels threatened and it shoots out fire from its mouth. Luckily, Mortimer and Sarah are able to avoid the flames, but the Christmas tree behind them goes up in flames. Sarah quickly covers the fire with a blanket, and as it stops, she looks relieved.
Almost immediately, the smoke alarm starts ringing, and Sarah opens the back door to clear the smoke. As Mortimer also struggles to stop the smoke alarm, Sarah helps him with it, and it stops ringing. However, Mortimer's dad already appears to be on his way to the house because he heard the alarm ringing. Sarah tells Mortimer to send his dad away, but he looks scared because he doesn't know what to say.
Sarah tells him to say anything, and Mortimer heads outside. Mortimer's dad seems quite concerned about the smoke alarm, and he says that he has to check it. As Mortimer struggles to come up with a better excuse, he says that there's a ghost inside. His dad looks shocked by this, but as Sarah realizes that Mortimer's excuse was weak, she heads outside and mentions that she's the ghost.
Mortimer's dad looks confused, but Sarah says she just flipped the wrong light switch inside the house. Mortimer's dad then assumes that his son brought Sarah to Arnfinson's house, and he doesn't complain about this. Hey, papa. As Sarah says she's new in town, Mortimer's dad invites her to his house and says that Mortimer's mom would be thrilled to have her over.
He also suggests baking some cookies and watching a movie when she comes over. Sarah feels overwhelmed by this, but Mortimer's dad just leaves and says that he'll see her soon. After this, Mortimer and Sarah head into the house and realize that the dragon has escaped through the back door. They look shocked by this and they immediately start looking for it.
Meanwhile, the police officer from the school gets a call from a colleague informing him about the smoke alarm that went off at Arfinson's house. The officer thinks it's probably nothing, but his colleague mentions that the owners of the house are currently on vacation. The officer then realizes that it could be Sarah and he immediately heads to the house. When he gets there, he sees the scattered living room and the burnt Christmas tree.
He then calls his colleague to bring some technicians over to check the house. As he also looks around, he sees Sarah's toys and her ID. Elsewhere, Mortimer and Sarah find the dragon at a market, and as they try to catch it, they end up scattering people's things. The dragon eventually enters the back of the truck, and the driver unknowingly locks it.
Before he drives away, Sarah tells Mortimer to keep distracting him while she tries to get the dragon. Following this, Mortimer stops the truck and tells the driver that he's a reporter from MTV. The driver doesn't seem interested in this, but Mortimer still insists that he wants to ask the man a few questions about his likes and dislikes. During this time, Sarah manages to unlock the back of the truck to free the dragon and put him inside a basket.
After this, Mortimer leaves the driver and escapes with Sarah. On their way, some of Mortimer's classmates see him and they talk about his videos. One of them says she has liked the videos many times and that she can't wait for him to share his secret. She adds that he has already crossed 1,000 likes and it's time for him to keep his promise.
Mortimer doesn't know what to say, but the girl warns him that their class bully has threatened to beat him up if his story ends up being fake. After Mortimer's classmates walk away, Sarah asks what they were talking about her down there and he says it's just his rackfisk challenge video. When they almost get to Arfinson's house, they notice that it's now surrounded by cops and scientists who have found the dragon poop and are interested in analyzing it. Sarah looks shocked by this, but Mortimer quickly suggests hiding in his school before anyone sees them.
Back at the market, the police officer goes to check out what happened after getting a call about some kids wrecking people's things. He eventually meets the truck driver and asks what happened, and the man mentions that one of the kids said he was from MTV. As he also mentions that the boy was recording a video with the phone, the officer realizes that it's Mortimer. After a while, Mortimer and Sarah break into the school and hide inside the principal's office.
Sarah eventually says she doesn't think she and the dragon will be safe there. Mortimer doesn't get this and he asks who she's running away from. Sarah then starts crying as she tells Mortimer her story. She says that when she was little, there was a war in the place where she lived and her parents and brother were killed.
She adds that only she and her neighbor survived and they managed to make it to Norway. the local. She says she thought they would be safe there, but that her neighbor eventually got caught by the cops. Before they came for her, she ran away and has been living in empty houses since then. As she says that Mortimer is her first friend, he gets emotional and sheds a tear.
Almost immediately, he gets an idea and finds a map showing the caves in Borington. He says that the caves have been abandoned for many years, but Sarah still suggests going to check the place because the dragon portal could be there. Mortimer doesn't sound sure about it because it could be dangerous, but Sarah says she'll go alone. After she leaves, Mortimer thinks about making a video with the dragon because he doesn't want to get beaten by his class bully.
However, he decides against it and uses his dad's computer to go live on YouTube to tell his viewers that the big secret is a lie he came up with to get more likes and become popular. After he ends the video, he looks sad and heads out of the room. Almost immediately, the dragon goes to the computer and taps on a button that starts recording a live video. Many people happen to be online and they see the dragon.
Meanwhile, the dragon looks confused when it sees itself on the screen, and it just sets the computer on fire. Elsewhere, Sarah takes a long walk to the cave and finds the place where the dragon came from. Back in the town, the police officer goes to meet Mortimer's parents to ask where he is. As Mortimer's mom tries to call him, she sees the dragon video posted on his channel and looks shocked.
Mortimer's dad also sees this and wonders if his son is into role-playing. As he then realizes that the video was made in his office, he heads there with the officer and his wife. After a while, Mortimer sees the burnt computer and looks confused. Almost immediately, Sarah returns to the school and tells Mortimer that she has already found the portal.
As she says that she and the dragon have to leave, Mortimer mentions that he doesn't want her to go. Before Sarah can respond, they hear sirens outside the school and realize that the cops have found them. and no men. Mortimer looks confused by this, but as he checks his phone, he sees the dragon video. Sarah also sees this and thinks he did it to go viral, but Mortimer says it was an accident.
Sarah doesn't believe this, and she says that Mortimer will get them arrested. Just before the cops break into the school, the army special unit for menacing biological organisms, led by a colonel named Hummer, arrives at the scene to take control of the situation. The cops don't understand this, but Hummer mentions that the government has declared a state of emergency in Borington. She adds that the poop sample from Arfenson's house shows that they could be dealing with an unidentified living entity.
Meanwhile, Mortimer sees his dad's dragon mask and asks Sarah if her dragon can fly. Sarah doesn't get why he's asking about this, but Mortimer begs her to give him a chance to correct his mistake. He adds that if the dragon can fly, he believes she can escape with it while he tries to fool the cops and the soldiers. Almost immediately, Hummer sends in one of her men who is wearing a hazmat suit with a face cover and a camera on it.
As he enters the building, Mortimer and Sarah managed to hide quite well, and he doesn't see them. After this, Mortimer tells Sarah to take the dragon to the roof while he distracts the soldier. Sarah then hugs and thanks him for helping her and the dragon. As they prepare to run to the roof, Mortimer covers the soldier's head with a blanket, and the man falls to the ground while trying to get it off.
