Scales Mermaids Are Real (2017) Full Recap

really catches the light. Thanks. A girl named Siren wakes up from a dream in which she nearly drowns in the ocean. This gets her scared because all her dreams have always been like that, and they have even made her slightly scared of the water. After Siren gets ready for school, her adopted mom, Tiffany, drops her off.

As Siren then walks into the school, she sees a new boy named Adam getting bullied by a girl named Hayden and her friends. Siren quickly interferes and threatens to call the principal, Strauss, to report Hayden for bullying a new student. Adam, please stand. As she says that Hayden might get suspended for it.

The bully seems pissed and eventually walks away. Adam thanks Siren for helping him, but she says it was nothing. She then asks what happened and Adam says that Hayden found out about his condition. Siren asks what it is and Adam says he has brittle bone disease. He adds that his bones are very fragile and Siren asks if it will always be like that like like 3 years.

Adam says it will be like that every day for the rest of his life and Siren feels sorry for him. Shortly after they both get to the classroom and the teacher, Mrs. Harper, introduces Adam to the other students. She also tells him to say his name. And as he does this, Siren's friend, Crystal, sees his crutch and asks what's wrong with him.

Harper doesn't like this question, and she tells Crystal that she should have just asked what's different about him. Crystal then asks this, and Adam tells them about his disease. Crystal says it's really bad, and Harper tells her to stop being rude. Just then, Hayden throws a piece of paper at Adam, and Harper scolds her.

After this, Harper says it's time to study. And as she turns to the board, Crystal tells Siren not to make friends with the new kid because it's social suicide. Siren says she's not sure she can do that because she thinks she likes Adam, and Crystal looks surprised. Harper then talks about metamorphosis, but Siren gets distracted while looking at a water bottle near her table.

Metamorphosis. As she continues staring at it, she notices that the water inside the bottle is moving. Suddenly, Harper calls her attention and asks if she knows any animals that undergo metamorphosis. As Siren thinks of one, Crystal says mermaids, but Harper tells her that they aren't real.

She then gives the kids some other examples, but Siren just turns her attention back to the water bottle. Surprisingly, the water moves again. All right, everyone, settle down. And Siren realizes that she's the one controlling it. As she freaks out, everyone looks shocked, but she says she wants to use the bathroom.

Harper says she can go, and Siren just heads out of the school. Strauss sees her running home and tries to stop her, but Siren doesn't listen to her. When Siren arrives home, Tiffany asks why she's not at school. Siren says school has been cancelled for the day, but Tiffany doesn't understand this before she can ask more questions.

It's time. Siren just heads to her room and tries to move the water in a glass cup to confirm if she really has powers. She gets distracted when she hears Tiffany calling her name, but she just tells her mom to leave her alone. As Siren concentrates on the glass of water again, Crystal suddenly enters the room and asks what's wrong with her friend.

She says she has never seen Siren break a rule before, but that she's now ditching school. Siren tells Crystal to just go home, but she says she can't do that because her friend looks weird as she asks what happened again. Siren tells her to sit down and watch what she's going to do. Siren then tries to get the water in the cup to move, but Crystal doesn't understand what she's doing.

As Siren manages to move the water and push the cup to the ground without touching it, Tiffany enters the room, and Crystal misses out on seeing what her friend just did. Tiffany then gives them some mini sandwiches and Crystal says she's the best. Before Tiffany leaves the room, she sees the spilled water and cup on the floor and she scolds Siren for this. Siren just tells her mom to leave the room.

And as she does this, Crystal asks if her friend wants to go to the beach. Siren says she's interested and they both leave the house. After they get outside, Crystal asks Siren if her mom has talked to her about anything lately. Siren says Tiffany talks about all kinds of things, but Crystal asks if she has said anything unusual.

Siren says her mom only gave her a lecture on how to properly water the lawn. Crystal says that's not what she means. And she asks about Siren's birthday next week and if Tiffany has said anything to Siren about her body. Siren doesn't get this, but Crystal tells her to forget about it.

Almost immediately, Siren notices that people in the neighborhood are watching them, and Crystal suggests going to a quiet place. They eventually stop to sit before getting to the beach, and Crystal says she got an early birthday present for Siren. This is pretty. After Siren opens it, she sees a special necklace inside, and she thanks her friend for it.

Crystal then tells Siren to promise that she'll wear it, and she says she will. Almost immediately, Crystal offers to help her friend put it on. And as she does this, the necklace glows. Later that day, after Siren returns home, Tiffany shows her some pictures of Siren's real mom, Emerald.

Siren then asks what she was like, and Tiffany says she was very beautiful and kind. Siren also asks if her real mom would have loved her if she were alive, and Tiffany says she would. She adds that Emerald protects Siren in her own way. Siren then asks if her dad could still be out there, but Tiffany says she doesn't know.

She also mentions that if he were out there, Emerald wouldn't have handed Siren over to her. After this, Tiffany leaves the room and Siren sees Adam throwing stones at her window. As she asks what he wants, he says he came to see if she would like to take a walk with him. Get used to being in the water.

Siren says it's fine and she heads down to meet him. Interestingly, as she leaves her room, the necklace glows, but Siren doesn't see it. Shortly after, Siren asks if Adam would like to sit for a while because of his condition, but he tells her to stop treating him like a special case. She then asks why he moved to the town, and Adam says his dad is searching for a cure for his condition.

He says it's really embarrassing and that if his dad had asked him before they moved, he would have advised him against it as he adds that he doesn't want to be a burden. Siren tells him not to feel bad. She says that all kids are burdens, but Adam mentions that his dad is a little too intense. He adds that his dad is convinced that he can find the cure in the town.

He also mentions that his dad's insistence on finding a cure is what drove his mom away. Siren feels sorry for him and he eventually walks her back home. The next day, Crystal looks happy to see Siren wearing her necklace. Suddenly, Adam comes over to thank Siren for walking with him the previous day.

Siren says it's fine, and Adam mentions that he likes her necklace. Siren thanks him for this, and Adam says he'll see her later. As he walks away, Siren's necklace glows again, and Crystal sees this. Crystal then tells Siren to stay away from Adam, but she looks confused and asks if her friend likes him.

Crystal lies that she does, and she insists that Siren must stop talking to Adam. Later that day, Crystal and her mom, Quinn, arrive at Tiffany's house to speak to her. Quinn then tells Tiffany that it's time to tell Siren what they've been hiding from her. Quinn says it shouldn't have taken them so long to tell her, but Tiffany mentions that it's not really easy for her because she's not like Quinn and Crystal.

Quinn says it doesn't matter and that Emerald left her daughter with Tiffany for a reason. As she adds that Tiffany has to tell her daughter the truth, Siren walks in and asks what they're talking about. Goes into the ocean. Tiffany then says she has something to tell Siren at dinner.

As they all sit at the table, Tiffany eventually gets scared and tells Quinn to tell Siren the truth. Quinn looks shocked and doesn't seem ready to do it, and she tells Crystal to tell Siren. Just then, Crystal asks Siren if she remembers how Quinn alternates between staying on land and water every 3 months. Siren says she knows it's for Quinn's work, but Tiffany mentions that all half breed mermaids have to go back to the ocean after every 3 months.

Siren thinks she's joking, but Quinn mentions that she's a mermaid and she wanted me to keep all of this secret. As Quinn also says that Siren is a mermaid, she looks shocked and realizes that they aren't joking. Tiffany then says that Emerald made her promise to keep it a secret to protect Siren. She adds that Siren will fully transform into a mermaid on her 12th birthday, which happens to be this weekend.

Siren cannot believe this and she talks about how her ability to control water now makes sense. Quinn and Tiffany look confused by this, but Siren shows them what she's talking about. So, right. Quinn, Tiffany, and Crystal look worried when they see this, and Siren asks what's wrong.

Quinn then says that Siren's ability makes her unique and shows that her blood might have healing powers. as she adds that they need to inform the other mermaids in the town. Siren doesn't get why her healing powers could be a problem, but Tiffany says that Siren's blood makes her desirable for hunters. Siren looks shocked by this, and she angrily heads to her room. Thanks for coming over.

Quinn then tells Tiffany that there's no need to go after Siren yet because she still needs some time to process what they've just told her. Meanwhile, as Siren is taking a bath, she sees her legs turn to fins. As she looks shocked, she passes out and Tiffany quickly takes her to the hospital. After a while, Siren wakes up in the hospital and sees that her legs are normal again.

Quinn and Crystal tell her to calm down, but Siren asks for her mom. Quinn says she went to get something at home, and Siren talks about what happened earlier. Quinn says, "It's normal for all mermaids. This is normal, honey. Everybody goes through this." But Siren asks how she can stop the transformation process.

Quinn says she can't, and Crystal mentions that it's actually cool. Siren then asks if her real mom is alive, and Quinn says she is, but that she lives under the ocean. She adds that Emerald is a pure blood mermaid who can go in and out of the water whenever she pleases, unlike half breeds. Siren asks if it means her mom could have come to get her, but Quinn says it's not that easy because Emerald is the leader of the mermaids.

Quinn adds that Tiffany was meant to protect Siren and that's why she couldn't talk about some things. Siren seems pissed and says that Tiffany lied to her, but Quinn and Crystal tell her to lower her voice. Just then, a nurse enters the room and Siren gets her to send Quinn and Crystal away. As the nurse also heads out to get her water, Siren sneaks out of the hospital before anyone can see her.

She then goes to Adam's house and sees Adam's dad, Gary. One of Gary's colleagues, Brody, also happens to be there, and Siren says she wants to see Adam. After they allow her to enter the house, Brody asks how old Siren is, 11, almost 12, and she says she's about to turn 12. Brody finds this interesting, but he doesn't say anything else.

Just then, Siren meets Adam in the living room, and as they start talking, she sees a drawing of a strange stick on the wall. As she asks what it is, Gary shows up and says it's a wailing stick. He adds that the sharp end of it is used to kill large fish, while the ball at the other end is used to call them to shore. He also mentions that the fish he's talking about is different, and it's the kind that Siren must have read in a book.

Siren says she doesn't read much about fish, and Gary asks if her mom has never told her stories about them. Siren looks confused by this, and as she sees a tranquilizer gun in the room, she asks if Gary is a hunter. Brody says it depends on what's being hunted, but Siren doesn't understand this. Adam eventually interrupts them and tells Siren to take a walk with him.

After they leave the house, Siren tells Adam that she has something she wants to tell him, but he might think she's weird. Adam says he won't do that, and Siren mentions that she's a mermaid. Adam looks shocked by this, and he asks if she's serious. Siren says she is, but that she hasn't fully transformed yet.

But then once you realize they really do sound crazy. Adam then mentions that his dad has told him many stories about mermaids, but that most of them are dark. Siren looks worried about her situation, and Adam says there's something he wants to show her. He then takes Siren to his dad's storage container, which is where he stores many of his things related to mermaids.

Siren then asks if Gary moved to town to get close to her kind, and Adam says he thinks so. He also shows her a book about mermaids as well as a replica of a whailing stick. Later that night, Siren arrives home and Tiffany says she has been really worried about her. Siren then apologizes for leaving the hospital and she says that she has also been worried about going into the ocean.

She adds that she wishes Tiffany could be there with her. Tiffany says she can't because she's not a mermaid, but she mentions that she's sure things will go well. She then gives Siren an airator and says it's what she'll use to breathe when her gills start to come out. Siren doesn't believe that she'll really have gills, but Tiffany says it's important.

After this, Siren asks if Tiffany has heard of a whailing stick. Tiffany looks shocked by this, and she asks where Siren heard about it. Siren then talks about Adam and how his dad has a replica of a whailing stick. Tiffany still looks scared and she asks if Gary and Adam moved to town with other people.

Siren doesn't get why her mom is being weird, but Tiffany tells her to stay away from Adam. That night, Siren has a dream in which she sees Emerald and some other mermaids swimming in the ocean. When she wakes up in the morning, she hears Tiffany and Quinn talking downstairs. As she hears them saying that they need to inform the others about the hunters, Siren asks what they mean.

Tiffany then mentions that the only group of people who know about the whailing stick, aside from mermaids, are hunters. Siren says that Adam and his dad are probably just collectors, but Tiffany doesn't believe this. Siren then asks who they want to tell, and Tiffany says they'll inform the other mermaids. Siren asks who they are, and Tiffany says she can meet them at a meeting tonight.

Siren looks happy about this, and as she gets ready for school, she sees that her gills are almost fully formed. instead of putting the airator around her neck. So, my dad sat me down yesterday and he told me the stories. Siren decides to wear a scarf. When she gets to school, Adam asks to speak to her privately, and she follows him.

Adam then tells her that his dad already told him more stories about mermaids and that he thinks a pure blood can cure him. He says that according to Gary's research, the blood of a half breed during the transformation process can also get the job done. Siren looks scared and Adam says he thinks his dad is hunting her, but he doesn't know it yet. Siren tells Adam not to tell Gary anything, and he says he won't.

He adds that he might be able to stop his dad from harming Siren, but she doesn't sound sure about this. She then offers to cure Adam with her powers, but she says she'll do it on her own terms. Almost immediately, she feels uncomfortable as she struggles to breathe. And as she falls to the ground, Crystal realizes that her friend isn't with her airator.

She then pulls the fire alarm to distract everyone. And as Adam wonders what's wrong, Crystal doesn't tell him anything. Suddenly, Strauss shows up and tells Crystal to take Siren to her office. And she does just this. After Strauss gives Siren an airator, she feels much better and asks if the principal knows what's happening to her.

Strauss says she does and that she's also a mermaid. After this, she heads outside with the kids and tells Crystal to take Siren to the river room. Siren seems confused, but Crystal tells her not to be worried because it has nothing to do with water. Shortly after, they arrive at a water desalination plant where they meet Tiffany and the other mermaids in the town, including Harper.

The mermaids look happy to see Siren, and they tell her not to be scared about her transformation. Following this, Strauss arrives and tells everyone that Siren is going to complete her transformation in a few days. She adds that Siren will be allowed to spend the night at her house tonight, but that she'll be escorted to a safe house tomorrow. Strauss says Siren will complete her transformation there before she's taken into the ocean.

Tiffany looks happy about this, and she tells Siren that she's now officially a mermaid. They're welcoming you. Elsewhere, Adam discovers that her dad has moved all his things from the storage container. He then goes to a place where Gary and his team are working to find a mermaid.

When Adam gets there, Gary mentions that he'll soon be able to cure his son because his team just found out that there's a mermaid about to change in the town. Adam doesn't think Gary is doing the right thing, but his dad says he's willing to do anything to find a cure. Shortly after, Brody tells Gary that some of their men have just reported that they saw a few women at the desalination plant. Gary says the women might be mermaids and that his men need to act fast.

However, Adam tells his dad not to do anything to them. He adds that he knows the mermaid who is about to change because she told him. He also mentions that she's willing to help and Gary asks who she is. Adam says he won't say her name unless Gary promises not to kill her. Gary refuses to do this because he needs the mermaid's blood to cure Adam.

As Adam still doesn't reveal who it is. You have to promise not to hurt her, Adam. Gary realizes that it's Siren, and he tells Brody that they'll grab her at her house tonight. Meanwhile, as Siren arrives home, Tiffany introduces her to two guards, Amber and Betty, who will be securing the house for the night.

The ladies look happy to see Siren, and she asks what they're holding. Amber says it's a stick that can create a force field of about 6 f feet around them. Siren looks impressed by this and the ladies eventually head out to guard the house. Tiffany then asks how Siren is feeling and she says she's just worried that she can't take anything along with her into the ocean.

Tiffany says she doesn't have to be worried and that everything will be there for her when she returns in 3 years. Later that night, Gary's men shoot Amber and Betty with tranquilizer darts before heading inside to find Siren. As Tiffany realizes what's going on, she wakes Siren and tries to escape with her. Unfortunately, Brody suddenly grabs Tiffany and before he can see Siren, Adam helps her escape.

After they get far away from the house, hydrogen composition. Siren looks scared that Gary's men might hurt her mom, but Adam says they'll only use her as leverage. He adds that Tiffany will be safe after Siren changes into a mermaid because his dad only needs her blood during her transformation process. Siren then suggests going to the river room to see if the other mermaids are around.

When they get there, they see that the place is surrounded by Gary's men, and Adam distracts one of them so that Siren can escape. After she leaves, she finds a safe place in the woods to sleep for the night. The next morning, she finds her way to the safe house and meets Harper and Crystal there. Siren says they have to do something to help her mom, but Harper says that Gary's men won't hurt Tiffany.

Siren then asks about the safe house, and Harper says it's the place where most mermaids complete their transformation process. She adds that once Siren enters the water, it will only take about 30 minutes for her tail to form. Elsewhere, Strauss leads some other mermaids to tell Brody and Gary to release Tiffany. Look what the tide dragged in.

Brody doesn't seem interested in doing this, and he brags about knowing a lot about mermaids. Strauss then mentions that if anyone can convince Siren to give up her blood to cure Adam, it's definitely Tiffany. Brody still doesn't care about this, but Gary agrees to free Tiffany and replace her with Strauss. However, he mentions that if Tiffany doesn't come back with Siren in 4 hours, he'll kill Strauss.

Tiffany looks scared and asks Amber where her daughter is and the guard mentions that Siren is safe. As Tiffany then heads home, Brody keeps staring at her, but Gary tells him to leave her alone. Brody says he won't, and he decides to follow her because he believes she'll lead him to where Siren is. The next day, Crystal gives Siren a cake and a present for her birthday.

Siren thanks Crystal for this and says she'll miss her friend when she's in the ocean. Shortly after, Crystal and Harper help Siren complete the transformation process inside the pool at the house. Can't believe it. It's amazing. As Siren's tail gets fully developed, she looks excited and Harper and Crystal congratulate her.

They then mention that it's time to take Siren to the ocean. Elsewhere, Tiffany heads out and walks to the safe house. Unfortunately, Brody happens to be following her, but when she gets there, she sees that there's no one around. Brody then shows up and asks where they are and Tiffany says it's her second house.

Brody eventually realizes that she's lying and he calls Gary and the others to come to the house. When they get there, they figure out that Siren is already on her way to the ocean. As they decide to head to the beach, Amber stops them. But as Gary's men threaten to hurt Tiffany, she leaves the way so they can pass.
