Boy Becomes a Superhero But Finds Out It’s Nothing Like He Expected.
A regular boy gets the chance of a lifetime to become a real superhero. At first, it feels exciting and fun. But soon, he realizes the job comes with danger, tough choices, and secrets he wasn’t ready for. It’s nothing like he imagined.
‘SPOILER ALERT’
After a Reality Altering Device, or Rad, is transported to a secure area, someone dressed as a popular sidekick named Kid Danger steals it. The guards in the building try to get back the device, but the thief gets past all of them and locks them inside. Following this, the thief takes off her mask, and it turns out to be a girl named Missy, who is a big fan of Kid Danger.
Shortly after, Missy takes the Rad to her home in a place called Newtown and starts working on how she’ll use it. Interestingly, it turns out that Missy actually wants to use the device to bring Kid Danger back from the dead. A few years back, a boy named Henry Hart became a sidekick to a superhero named Captain Man.
They fought crime together in a town called Swellview, along with Henry’s friends, Jasper and Charlotte, and his sister, Piper, who eventually became aware of her brother’s role as a popular sidekick. Captain Man and Kid Danger also got help from a genius named Schwoz, who was quite good at helping them create amazing devices. As Henry grew older, he started feeling differently about being Kid Danger, especially because he wanted to leave Swellview.
One day, after Henry stops a bomb from blowing up Swellview, he fakes his death and moves to another city called Dystopia, where he now fights crime along with Jasper, who has a unique ability to fight in his sleep while speaking Spanish. In the present day, Jasper meets up with a detective named Jones, who wants to know if Henry is alive. Jasper says he’s still alive, but that he’s not around yet because he’s busy with something.
Jasper adds that even though Henry has superpowers, he himself can still be useful because he’s good at sleep fighting. Jones doesn’t look convinced, but Jasper insists that if Henry fails to show up, he can help the cops catch the bad guy expected to pass through the area later that night. Just then, Piper and Schwoz show up behind Jasper, and he looks shocked to see them.
As he asks why they came to Dystopia, Piper mentions that she’s currently on break at school, and that she came to spend some time with her brother. Jasper still doesn’t think they should be in Dystopia because he and Henry are very busy, but Piper doesn’t understand this. Schwoz then says he heard that Jasper and Henry are the two hottest superheroes in Dystopia.
Jasper doesn’t respond to this, but as Piper says she heard that Henry is his boss, he mentions that they’re partners. He adds that Henry is even signing an endorsement deal for them at the moment. Piper doesn’t seem to get this, and she asks why he isn’t there with Henry to sign the deal.
Schwoz also asks the same thing, but Jasper doesn’t respond to their question. As he then says he’s busy, Piper and Schwoz try to convince him not to work that night. Schwoz also suggests calling Henry and going to see a movie together, but Jasper says he can’t do that.
He then mentions that a truck full of plutonium is about to roll down the street, and there’s someone who is going to attack it. As Piper and Schwoz ask him about the villain, Jasper says he’s called Blackout, and that he plans to steal the plutonium so he’ll be able to shut down the city’s power grid permanently. Shortly after, while Henry is signing the endorsement deal at a company named BizWatch, the lights in the room go off, and he realizes that something is not right.
As Jasper, Piper, and Schwoz also notice that the lights in the area are off, they figure out that Blackout is nearby. Coincidentally, the truck carrying the plutonium moves toward them, but it gets attacked by Blackout. Jasper then places a device behind his head to put himself to sleep so he can sleep-fight Blackout.
During their fight, Jasper does quite well, but Blackout appears to be really powerful and hard to knock down. Almost immediately, the people in the city see a green object moving in the sky, and as it lands, it turns out to be Henry, who has arrived to fight Blackout. Unlike Jasper, Henry beats up Blackout and throws him through the glass window of a nearby store.
Everyone rejoices as he does this, and Henry takes a break to greet Piper and Schwoz. While talking to them, Henry records a short commercial for BizWatch because it’s part of his deal to say the word Bizness every 45 seconds while he’s fighting crime. As he then heads over to meet Jasper to decide what to do next, his best friend hears him saying Bizness and asks what’s wrong.
Henry then explains the terms of the deal he signed, and as they return to meet Piper and Schwoz, Blackout comes out of the store. He then mentions that Henry’s fame has weakened him, but Henry doesn’t seem to care. As Blackout tries to attack him, Henry generates an impenetrable force field in front of the villain before knocking him far from the scene.
After this, Jasper takes off the device on his head and asks Henry how the signing went. Henry mentions that it was fine, and Jasper asks if he got a Bizwatch for him. Henry says he didn’t, and even though Jasper is bothered by this, he just asks if their ad looks good. Henry says it does, but as Jasper sees it, he realizes that he was blurred out. He doesn’t look happy about this, and he asks why Henry couldn’t say anything to the company after he saw it.
Henry says he wanted to say something but eventually had to leave because the lights went off. Jasper still doesn’t look happy, but before he says anything else, Jones shows up and tells him to take a picture of her with Henry. Jasper looks disappointed because he has a crush on Jones, but he still takes the picture for her.
After this, Henry notices that Jasper isn’t happy, and he asks what the problem is. Jasper then complains about how Henry gets all the credit for their joint efforts in fighting crime in the city. Henry jokingly asks if he wants a gold star for his efforts, but Jasper mentions that he’s tired of people always thinking Henry is his boss.
Henry doesn’t seem to have a problem with being referred to as the boss, but Jasper gets pissed and says they’ll meet at home. Just then, Henry tells Jasper that he’s moving out of their shared apartment because he wants his own place. Jasper doesn’t get this, but Henry says they’re not kids anymore, and that it might be best if they live separately.
Jasper then asks if they’re still a team, but Henry just says he can come over to his new place anytime he wants. Jasper doesn’t like his response, and he just walks away from the scene. As Schwoz follows him, Piper tells Henry that what he did to Jasper was not cool.
Henry doesn’t respond to this, and he just heads over to the BizWatch headquarters after he gets a message from the owners. When he gets there, Henry sees that the entire office has been scattered, and as he wonders what’s going on, Blackout shows up out of nowhere and throws him out of the window. Coincidentally, Missy has already gotten the Rad to work well, and as it creates a strange kind of energy that flips the pages of her drawing book, Henry gets teleported out of Dystopia.
When he wakes up, Henry looks shocked to see himself in Missy’s room. As he also realizes that he’s wearing his old kid danger costume, he starts wondering if he’s dead. Missy then tells him that he’s in Newtown, but he doesn’t seem to know what she’s talking about.
As he then looks scared and asks why he’s wearing his old costume, Missy says she just brought him back from the dead. Henry doesn’t understand this, but before Missy can say anything else, her sister, Gemma, enters her room. She looks shocked to see Kid Danger, and Henry quickly tries to ask for her help because he doesn’t know where he is.
Gemma looks confused, but Missy tells her to leave the room. Gemma refuses to do this because she doesn’t understand why Kid Danger is in Missy’s room, but Missy forces her to leave. Gemma eventually leaves, and Henry realizes that Missy has several things in her room with his face on them. Missy then properly introduces herself and tells Henry that she’s a superfan of Kid Danger. Henry doesn’t care about this, and he asks how he got to her room.
Missy then shows him the Rad and says it’s what she used to bring him back from the dead. Henry says he didn’t die, but Missy thinks he’s lying because everyone knows he sacrificed himself to save Swellview. Henry then mentions that he faked his death after saving Swellview.
He adds that he did it to move on with his life and protect his family so that his enemies would stop trying to hurt them. Missy cannot believe he actually faked his death and left his fans traumatized, but Henry says sorry for this. She then asks what he has been doing since he left Swellview, and he says he’s now fighting crime in Dystopia.
Missy doesn’t know where Dystopia is, but Henry says it’s an Island in the Pacific Ocean. Missy then asks if Charlotte and Jasper are there with him, but Henry looks shocked and asks how she knew his friends. Missy says she has already figured out his secret identity, and that his eye mask didn’t really cover his face. Henry then asks why she brought him to Newtown, and Missy says there’s so much crime happening there. She adds that she and Gemma always get robbed on their way back from school, and no one does anything about it.
Henry says he needs to get back to Dystopia, but Missy sounds disappointed and asks if he doesn’t want to fight crime with her. Henry says she seems like a nice girl, but that he’s doing his own thing in Dystopia and doesn’t want to change. He also mentions that she shouldn’t just pull people out of their worlds without their permission.
As he gives her the Rad, he tells her to send him back to Dystopia, and she says she will. Before she’s able to do this, they hear someone shouting for help in the neighborhood. As they look out of the window, they see a man named Coach Cregg trying to steal an innocent lady’s bag.
Missy looks shocked by this, and she mentions that even though she used the Rad to bring Henry into her regular life, it seems the device did something else because Coach Cregg is one of the characters from her fan fiction stories. She then tells Henry to help the innocent lady, but he says he needs to get back to Dystopia. Missy looks disappointed by this, but as she convinces him to change his mind, Henry decides to help.
Missy then asks if she can come with him, but he tells her to stay back because he prefers working alone. As he heads down, though, Coach Cregg beats him up and Henry realizes that he doesn’t have his superpowers anymore. Missy asks if he needs her help, but he says he’s fine, and that he just has to find a way to regain his superpowers.
Missy then mentions that she thinks they’re stuck in one of her fan fiction stories. She adds that she actually linked the Rad’s protocol systems to hers, but that she might’ve logged in as an administrator instead of a guest. Henry doesn’t understand this, and he says he probably lost his powers temporarily.
However, Missy says she never knew he had superpowers, so she didn’t add them to her stories. Henry looks disappointed as he hears this, and Coach Cregg just continues beating him. The villain eventually gets Henry to start doing pushups, and Missy keeps asking if he needs her help, but he says he’s fine.
Much later, Missy tells Henry that he needs to let her help him because there’s another scary villain in her story. Henry asks what she’s talking about, and Missy says there’s an electric vampire in her stories. Henry sounds shocked to hear this, and he tells Missy to do whatever she can to help, even though he’s sure she can’t beat Coach Cregg.
Surprisingly, Missy hits Coach Cregg on his head while he’s focused on Henry, and he falls to the ground. Henry is shocked by this, but Missy says she thinks they’ll make a good team. Henry doesn’t seem to care about this, and he tells Missy to take him back to Dystopia. As she tries to turn on the Rad, the vampire from Missy’s story shows up, and it turns out to be Piper. Henry looks confused when he sees her, and as he asks if Piper is the vampire, she runs toward him and Missy.
Before she can do anything to them, Missy activates the Rad and tells Henry to hit a button that will send him back to Dystopia. As he hits it, he and Missy are teleported away from Newtown, but it turns out that Piper already stole something from the device. Meanwhile, Missy and Henry find themselves at a nightclub owned by a man named Frankini.
Henry realizes that they’re not in Dystopia, but Missy says she thinks they’re in Swellview. Henry then asks about the Piper they saw earlier, and Missy explains that she made Henry’s sister a vampire in her fan fiction because Piper kicked her out of a Kid Danger fan club group. Henry sounds confused as he hears this, but Missy mentions that she was angry at the time, so she just made Piper a vampire that would eventually kidnap Gemma.
Before Henry can say anything, he sees Piper at the club and looks shocked because he left his sister in Dystopia. As he asks what’s really going on, he snatches the Rad from Missy and sees that it’s now locked in story mode. Henry asks what it means, but Missy says she doesn’t know because she didn’t build the Rad.
Henry then asks if she knows where they really are, and Missy says she thinks they’re trapped in her stories because the nightclub is one of the places in her fan fiction. She adds that in the story she wrote about the nightclub, Henry plays a role as a sidekick and not a hero. As Henry asks who he’s a sidekick to, a superhero named Captain Stache enters the club, and it turns out to be Jasper.
Henry is shocked by this, but he also realizes that Captain Stache can fly. Even though he’s amazed by this, Henry still says he wants to go home, but as he walks away, Piper sees him and asks why he isn’t smiling. Henry says he’s upset, and Piper mentions that she can improve his mood by giving him a special meal at the nightclub.
Henry doesn’t seem interested in this, but Piper forces him to accept the meal. Shortly after, Captain Stache joins them at the table, and as Henry remembers his fight with Jasper in Dystopia, he finds it funny that Missy brought them to a universe where his best friend is a hero. Captain Stache and Piper don’t understand this, but Henry tells Missy to explain what happened to them.
As she then mentions that they’re characters from her story, Piper and Captain Stache look confused and cannot believe it. Henry then gets an idea and tells the others that since they’re in Swellview, they just need to look for Schwoz so that he’ll be able to fix the Rad. Piper and the others don’t know who Schwoz is, but Henry says he’s a genius who used to live with Captain Man in his secret headquarters.
Following this, they start calling for Schwoz to see if he’s in their current universe. After a while, Henry sees Schwoz inside the kitchen and looks happy to see him. However, Schwoz doesn’t recognize him, and he tells Henry to stop disturbing him while he’s at work as a place scraper.
As Schwoz then talks about an experiment he did that got him sent to prison a while ago, Henry realizes that he’s still very smart, so he asks for his help. Schwoz doesn’t think there’s anything he can help with, but Henry says he needs him to look at a device and see if he can fix it. Schwoz looks interested in this, and he leaves the kitchen to check out the device.
While he’s trying to see what’s wrong with it, Henry and the others hear a loud whistle inside the nightclub. Missy then mentions that Coach Cregg is around again. Captain Stache immediately heads out to fight him, but as he struggles to handle Coach Cregg on his own, Missy tells Henry that he has to help his friend.
Henry says he’s not interested because he just wants to return to Dystopia, but Missy convinces him to change his mind. She then gives him a can of soda which will help him activate his costume. As he drinks it, Henry changes into his costume, but he doesn’t seem to like it. Henry then goes to confront Coach Cregg with an object Missy gave him. As he hits the object on Coach Cregg, he appears to be unaffected, and this leaves Henry shocked.
Coach Cregg then beats him up, but Captain Stache eventually helps Henry and defeats the villain. As everyone cheers for Captain Stache, Missy teaches Henry how to get out of the costume, and he heads to the kitchen to change to his normal clothes. Shortly after, Missy enters the kitchen and sees him sitting alone.
She then gives him a gold star, and as he asks what it’s for, she mentions that in her story, Henry struggled with being in Captain Stache’s shadow, so she started giving him gold stars to let him know that he’s still appreciated for his efforts. Henry finds this weird and tells Missy that in the real world, Jasper is struggling with living in his shadow. Missy then asks if he gives Jasper gold stars, but Henry says he doesn’t.
Before Missy says anything else, Schwoz enters the kitchen and tells them that he has figured out what’s wrong with the Rad. He then mentions that they’re stuck in Missy’s fan fiction because the only stories on the Rad before it got broken were hers. As he then asks if they saw a crystal-like object on the device earlier, Frankini enters the kitchen and tells them to come outside to watch him perform his next song.
Henry doesn’t seem interested in this, and as Frankini looks pissed, he grabs the Rad. Henry and Missy immediately try to get it back from him, but Frankini mistakenly hits the button on the device, and the three of them get teleported to another story while Schwoz remains in the kitchen because he didn’t touch the Rad with them. In the new story, Frankini and Henry wonder where they are, and Missy says they’re in Newtown.
They don’t seem happy with this, and as they tell her to hit the button again to send them back to the club, Missy refuses because she doesn’t want to risk sending them to a dangerous story since they can’t be sure where they’ll land. Frankini then walks away and tells Missy to get it sorted. Henry also mentions that he needs to get back to the club to meet Schwoz, but Missy says they’ve got bigger problems because Coach Cregg and Vampire Piper are heading toward them.
Henry is shocked by this, but Missy says they’re in the part of her story where Piper will enter the house to kidnap Gemma. Henry says he can just talk to Piper, but as he tries this, she nearly bites him. Frankini then returns to the scene and seems amazed by how Piper looks. Henry and Missy quickly hide inside a bus, and they watch Piper bite Frankini and turn him into a vampire.
They’re left shocked by this, and they also look scared because if Piper or Frankini bites them, they’ll become vampires and remain stuck in the story instead of being able to return to the real world. Before they can think of what to do next, Coach Cregg finds them and brings them out of the bus they were hiding in. Piper then asks about the Rad and what it can do, and Missy says it can teleport people to different worlds.
Piper thinks of this as an opportunity to raise an army of vampires in different worlds, but before she can get the Rad from them, Henry hits the button on the device. As they leave Newtown, Piper looks shocked and tells Frankini that she wants the Rad. Meanwhile, Missy and Henry land in a story set in a deserted world where Jasper is fighting against some Canadian Mounties, who want to steal the last container of maple syrup in the world.
Henry doesn’t get why Missy would write a story like that, and he suggests giving up the maple syrup to the mounties so they can focus on finding Schwoz and fixing the Rad. However, Missy says they’re supposed to wait for someone called the Big Guy, who will take the container of maple syrup to California. Just then, Jasper asks if they’d like to join him to fight the mounties.
Before they respond, Jasper sees an arrow about to hit Henry, and he stands in the way to protect his friend. Jasper only gets mildly hurt in the process, and Henry agrees to help him fight the mounties. Missy then admires their friendship, but Henry says that he and Jasper recently had a fight in Dystopia.
Jasper hears this and asks what Dystopia means, and Missy mentions that they’re from the real world. As Jasper then asks if he was the one who did something to ruin their friendship, Henry blames himself for it and says it was because he got busy and famous. Missy cannot believe he left his friend for such petty reasons, and Henry also feels bad about what he did.
As Jasper then says he’ll probably have to fight the mounties on his own, Henry says he’s still interested in helping his friend. Following this, Missy comes up with a plan to defeat the mounties. After they get this done, the Big Guy arrives, and it turns out to be Schwoz.
Henry looks happy to see him, but Schwoz doesn’t share in his excitement. Shortly after, Henry shows Schwoz the Rad to see if he can figure out what the problem is. He then looks at it and says that someone has stolen a crystal from the device. Missy remembers seeing Vampire Piper wearing it as a necklace, and she tells Henry about this. She then blames herself for everything that has happened, but Henry says it’s not her fault because she used the Rad to bring him back to help protect her town.
Almost immediately, Henry asks Schwoz if he’ll be able to fix the Rad when they get back the crystal. Schwoz says he can, and Henry suggests going to Newtown to get the crystal from Piper. Jasper says he’ll come with them, but Henry warns him that if Piper bites him, he’ll become a vampire. Jasper doesn’t seem to care, and he says he’s ready to fight until the end for Henry. Missy looks happy about this and tells Henry that she thinks Jasper is an amazing friend.
Just then, they all place their hands on the Rad and get teleported back to Newtown. As they arrive, they see Piper holding Gemma, and Missy looks scared for her sister. Piper then tells Coach Cregg and Frankini to bring Missy into the house and kill the others.
As she takes Gemma back into the house, Henry tells Missy and Schwoz to protect the Rad while he and Jasper try to get the crystal. Before they can do anything, Coach Cregg blows his whistle to destabilize them, and this makes it easy for him to beat up Henry. While the others are distracted, Missy enters the house to look for her sister.
Jasper then tells Henry to go inside to get the crystal while he fights off Coach Cregg and Frankini. Following this, Henry enters the house and sees Missy looking for Gemma. As he scolds her for not staying outside with Schwoz, Piper comes downstairs and says that Gemma is in her room.
Missy immediately tries to attack her, but Piper knocks her down. Henry then tries to get the necklace from Piper, but she appears to be too fast for him. She eventually pushes him through several walls in the house, and this makes Henry weak. Outside the house, Coach Cregg keeps blowing his whistle to try to destabilize Jasper. Interestingly, Schwoz blocks his ear with a pair of ear plugs and attacks Coach Cregg before breaking his whistle.
Meanwhile, Piper tries to hurt Henry inside the house, but Missy shows up and stops her. Unfortunately, Piper bites Missy, and Henry quickly pushes his sister away. As he looks shocked and asks why Missy allowed herself to get bitten, she shows him the crystal and says she did that to distract Piper.
She then gives him the crystal and tells him to go home. Henry takes it from her, and as she turns into a vampire, he leaves the room. Just as Piper then tries to catch him, Henry gives the crystal to Schwoz. Unfortunately, Schwoz says he’ll still need some time to fix the Rad, and Jasper and Henry are forced to go up against Piper and her team, which now includes Missy.
The boys do their best to keep them busy while Schwoz continues working on the Rad, but Piper eventually calls on her vampire army in Newtown to join the fight. Jasper and Henry are shocked by this, and as they wonder what they’ll do next, Schwoz activates the device. Following this, Missy becomes normal again and finds herself in her room, with Gemma looking unhurt. Frankini also looks normal and returns to his club. Elsewhere, Henry gets to Dystopia and sees the gold star in his pocket.
He then goes to meet Jasper to give it to him. Jasper asks if it’s supposed to make him happy, but Henry just says he’s a good friend, and that he’s sorry for not seeing it earlier. Jasper then asks what’s going on, and Henry says he has to leave Dystopia because it’s not a place for him. He adds that he believes he can now leave because he knows Jasper will be a good hero for the city. Jasper likes this, but he mentions that things will be weird when Henry is gone.
Henry then says they still have something to do together. As the lights in the city start flickering again, Henry and Jasper work together to find and beat up Blackout for good. They both look happy about this, and Jones also shows up at the scene to take pictures with Jasper.
A while later, in Newtown, two boys try to steal Missy’s laptop at a park, but Henry shows up to stop them. Missy looks happy to see him, and she asks if Henry is friends with Jasper again. Suddenly, Jasper shows up at the park and asks Missy if she’ll take care of Henry while he’s in Newtown.
Missy says she will, and Schwoz shows up to talk about Henry’s new hideout. Henry then asks if she’s ready to fight crime, and she looks excited as she says she is. A while later, Henry and Missy arrive at a crime scene only to see Captain Man shooting down some drones. Henry and Missy are shocked to see him, and after he shoots down all the drones, Captain Man says he needs Henry’s help.
After faking his death and moving to Dystopia, Henry teams up with Jasper to fight crime in the new city. Despite Jasper’s efforts, no one gives him credit for being a good sidekick, and Henry doesn’t really care too. Much later, Henry gets teleported to a world where he realizes how important Jasper is to him. This makes him regret how he had always treated Jasper, and he learns that true friendship means recognizing and appreciating a friend’s efforts, no matter their role.
