See for Me (2021) Full Recap
Sophie Scott used to be one of the 10 best skiers under 18 in the whole country. Her room is still full of medals, trophies, and photos of her flying down mountains. Then an eye disease called retinitis pigmentotosa took her sight, and her Olympic dream went with it. Now all she can see is a little light.
A ski race plays on the TV downstairs while Sophie packs a bag by touch. On the screen, another American skier is chasing a medal on her comeback from a bad injury. She drags her suitcase down the stairs, one hand on the rail. Her mom catches her at the bottom. Sophie has another job, and she was going to call from the road.
Mom isn't buying it. She seen Sophie's bank account, and there's $4,200 in it from a job that pays a third of that. Sophie calls it tips. When the owners come home and the pets are still alive, rich people pull out another wad of cash. And it's called getting a tip. Mom offers to drive her.
Sophie takes the cab because the owner is paying for it anyway. Before she goes, Mom pulls her into a hug. Sophie just mumbles that she's going to be late. On the long ride north, her phone rings. It's mom again with one last thing. There's a new app for blind people in her email and she thinks it's perfect for Sophie.
The call breaks up in the mountains. Sophie doesn't call back. The cab stops at a huge glass house deep in the snowy woods of upstate New York. The driver jumps out to carry her bags. Thanks. Sophie only asks where the front door is, then walks there on her own. The owner, Deborah, hurries her inside because she's late for a flight.
She rattles off the alarm code and introduces the real boss of the house, a tabby cat named Archie. Deborah signed her divorce papers yesterday, and she's off to celebrate. Archie, honey, mommy will be home soon. Then she's gone. Turns out he has neither. Deborah offers to show her the cat food, the litter box, and the guest room.
Each time Sophie says she'll find it herself. Of course you will, Deborah says with a big smile. The moment she's alone, Sophie Video calls her friend Cam. He watches through her phone camera and talks her through the house. High ceilings, marble floors, a deerkin rug, a fireplace, and a greenhouse full of plants.
He calls out every step and every wall before she reaches it. Down in the basement, they find what Sophie really came for, a wine seller. She pulls out a bottle, and Cam reads the label and looks up the price, $4,500. Sophie slips it into her bag. This is how she makes her money. One expensive bottle from every house she sits.
And Cam helps her sell it. But Cam wants out. He asks if she thinks being blind will save her. You'd know that if you saw how they treated me. Sophie snaps. Cam has heard enough. If she walks out with that bottle, he's done. Cam is standing on a ski hill right now. For months, he's been begging her to come back and let him guide her toward the Parolympics.
Sophie tells him to try going down a mountain blindfolded at 70 m an hour first. Then she hangs up on him. Her phone reads her new emails out loud. A reminder from Parolympics USA about the qualifying deadline. Delete. Delete. Message deleted. The phone rings and Sophie picks up snapping that she put it back.
It isn't Cam, it's Deborah checking in and she wants to arm the alarm together over the phone. Sophie finds the keypad by touch and punches in the code system arm. That evening, Sophie steps out for a cigarette and the door locks behind her. It's freezing and the nearest neighbor is miles away.
She downloads, "See for me." The first helper, Mave, tells her the door handle is right in front of her. Sophie hangs up. It's locked. Somewhere in Florida, a woman named Kelly is barking orders at her team in an online war game. Nobody listens and they get wiped out again. Kelly tears off her headset and takes five.
Her phone buzzes with a C forme call. Sophie wants a way back inside. Kelly asks if there's someone she could call. The last time Kelly took a call on this app, she read a man the date on his mill. Knew this was a waste of time. Kelly has her pan the camera around the house, then walks her along the outside wall, six steps down, a railing on the right, 40 ft of open path, and then a sliding glass door with no bar in the track.
Kelly tells her to set the phone down and grab the handle with both hands. Sophie pushes and rocks the door up and down, up and down. It pops off the track. She runs inside with Kelly, shouting out every plant and every stair, and she reaches the alarm panel just in time. Mission accomplished.
Nice trick. Kelly jokes that she just helped a total stranger break into a house. Sophie points out that she doesn't sound too worried. Before they hang up, Sophie saves Kelly as a priority helper. Be careful, Sophie. Later, Sophie sits in the dark with a video about blind ski racing.
The guide skis just ahead of the athlete and shouts every turn. Straight up, up, up. Now, flex. Sophie plays it a second time. Late that night, headlights creep up the driveway. Three men in dark clothes walk to the house with flashlights and heavy bags. One of them works the alarm panel and it goes quiet.
They walk right in. Upstairs, Sophie wakes up. She lies still and listens. Footsteps, low voices. Somebody is moving through the house. The men go straight to a painting in the living room and lift it off the wall. Behind it, built into the wall, is a steel safe. Dave, their safe cracker, sets up a drill and gets to work.
Sophie creeps along the hallway with one hand on the wall, trying to work out where they are. Then one of them hears her. The drilling stops. The leader, Ernie, tells the others to stick to the plan until they hear from the boss. Sophie calls 911 in a whisper. Help is on the way, but out here, the operator can't say how long it will take.
That's not good enough. Kelly picks up. There are at least two strangers in the house, maybe more. Kelly wants her to stay hidden and let them take whatever they want, but Sophie can hear them getting closer and trap myself down the Kelly needs to see, so Sophie pans the camera around every corner.
One man stands in the foyer. Another one is drilling into the wall. Kelly finds a hallway that leads away from both of them, but Sophie has her own plan. She knows exactly where the front door is. No, Sophie, not the door. Sophie runs for it anyway. A man steps right into her path and grabs her and the phone goes flying.
In Florida, Kelly keeps screaming her name until the call drops. The men drag Sophie into the living room and send someone for her things. Ernie gets the boss on the phone. Sophie called 911 12 minutes ago, and by their math, that leaves seven before the cops arrive. The boss gives one order.
Let her go. Ernie digs through her wallet, Sophie Scott. He finds an old news story about the young ski star who lost her sight. Then he shines a flashlight straight into her eyes, and her pupils barely move. She really is blind. The 911 call changes everything. The cops are coming and the men argue about what to do with her.
Leave her here and she talks. Make her disappear and the police will search these woods for weeks. Inside that wall sits $7 million. and tonight is their only shot at it. Then Sophie speaks up. She'll call back and say it was a mistake. And in return, she wants a share to show she's no saint.
She tells them to look in her bag. Inside is Deborah's $4,500 bottle of wine. Sophie calls 911 again with the men standing over her. She says she's blind. She heard the TV and panicked. It's stupid. The operator is glad she's okay, but by law, an officer still has to drive out and check.
Sophie panics because the cop is still coming. Ernie stays calm. The cops were never going to turn around anyway. The men pack the gear into their vehicles and kill the lights. In Florida, Kelly is on the phone with the police. She found Sophie online. A blind teenage ex skier last seen posting from New York.
The officer won't do anything without an address. She begs them to check every 911 call north of the city for a home invasion. This has to be her. A patrol car comes up the driveway. Ernie gives Sophie one last piece of advice. Let the cop feel helpful, so she walks out happy. It's Deputy Brooks from the sheriff's station.
Sophie says through the door that it was all a mistake. Brooks still wants to come in. Sophie opens the door and Brooks walks through the house, shining her flashlight around. She makes small talk about the cold and the cat. She's more of a dog person herself. Sophie keeps her answers short.
She mistook the TV for voices and she might have been a little drunk. Brooks stops at the wall and finds a loose panel. Sophie stands very still. Brooks calls it a fire hazard and tells her to let the owner know. At the door, Brooks stops and turns around. Maybe someone really was here and maybe there's a reason Sophie had to lie about it.
Sophie says no. Brooks offers to help one more time and Sophie turns her down. Then Sophie's phone rings. It's Kelly. Brooks picks it up off the counter and hands it over and she waits. Sophie answers, calls her cam, says it was a pocket dial and hangs up fast. Uh yeah, pocket dial.
Sorry. Brooks heads out and her radio crackles. A woman in Florida was on a video call with the 911 caller during a break-in. At least three men. The caller is a blind girl named Sophie. Brooks draws her gun. A blind girl. Ernie walks out with his hands up. Brooks puts him on the floor in cuffs and radios for backup.
Then she turns to Sophie. Otus comes out of the dark and slams into Brooks. They crash to the floor and her gun skids away. Sophie crawls across the floor, finds the gun with her hands and slips away. Behind her, Brooks stops moving. Ernie is still in cuffs and he's furious. A break-in would have cost him 6 months.
A dead cop is a whole different story. Dave says backup will be here in 20 minutes and heads back to the safe. Then they notice the deputy's gun is gone. Sophie calls Kelly. They killed a cop. She has the gun and she wants out of this house. Kelly begs her to stay inside because out there it's open ground and too dark for the camera.
Sophie runs out into the snow anyway. She doesn't get far. Sophie trips and goes down hard and the gun vanishes into the snow. Kelly can't see a thing. Flashlight. The phone light comes on and Kelly guides her hand inch by inch until her fingers touch metal. From the house comes the sound of the drill.
That means one man is busy at the safe. The other two are still out hunting for her. Kelly tells her to get up and get back inside. Sophie hides in the greenhouse behind the plants. Footsteps come up the stairs and a flashlight beam sweeps the room. Kelly walks her through the gun.
Feel for the little switch on the side. It's down, so the safety is off. It's down. Otus moves closer, talking softly, promising nobody will get hurt. Kelly can see what's in his hand. A knife. Sophie fires until he drops. Kelly calls her name again and again until Sophie answers.
He's down, but everyone in the house heard those shots and the phone just hit 20% battery. Her charger is in her bag by the front door out in the open. Sophie moves down the stairs and Ernie comes after her. The video call freezes at the worst possible moment. Sophie fires blind into the dark.
Kelly's voice cuts back in just in time. Up left fire. This time, Ernie goes down. Kelly tells her to grab the radio off his belt so they can hear the others coming. Sophie feels along his jacket until she finds it. Her hands won't stop shaking. Sophie can barely breathe. Kelly tells her to breathe the way she used to at the top of a ski slope before a race.
In through the nose, hold it out. Sophie wants to know how Kelly knew she used to ski. Kelly looked her up. Top 10 under 18 in the whole country is hard to miss. Then Sophie asks why Kelly talks like she's in the army. Kelly served in Iraq with the 22nd Infantry and now she's stuck behind a desk on admin duty and I deserve it.
Sophie comes clean. She made a deal with the robbers and sent the police away for a cut of the money and now Brooks is dead. She could have walked out with her. She should be on a mountain somewhere training. The battery drops to 5%. Upstairs, Dave calls the boss Rico. Ernie and Otus aren't answering.
He needs two more minutes on the safe and then he's going after the girl. Sophie goes up while Kelly can still see. Dave is at the safe with his back to her. Kelly brings her in close and tells her to plant her feet. Fire. The shot misses and Dave throws his hands in the air. Dave begs for his life.
The safe swings open and he tells her she can have all of it. Kelly keeps yelling at her to shoot. Sophie hesitates. Then the phone dies and Kelly is gone. Dave keeps his hands up and keeps talking. He was told this house would be empty tonight. He never would have signed up for any of this.
Now Sophie is alone with him. She orders Dave not to move because they're waiting for the cops. Dave wants to take his share and leave. He lowers himself to his knees slowly and his hand creeps toward the dead deputy's taser. Sophie hears it and pulls the trigger. For a long moment, the house is silent.
Sophie feels her way to the open safe. It's packed with stacks of cash. She runs her hands over the money. Then the front door opens. A man walks in with a flashlight and calls her name. It's Rico. He tells her she earned her cut tonight and that he isn't even mad. Sophie stays hidden.
Rico pulls out his phone and dials 911. His voice turns terrified. There are dead bodies. He's hiding. Please hurry. Then he hangs up calm again. Now he's the victim who stumbled into a massacre. Rico is Deborah's ex-husband, and this is his money. He hid it from her and from the government during the divorce.

With his crew gone, he offers Sophie 2 million, and only the two of them will ever know about it. It's 2 million bucks. They'll split it when things cool down. Sophie's answer is to kill the power. The house goes black and red emergency lights blink on. In the dark, Sophie knows the house better than he does.
"There's my answer," Rico says and pulls his gun. Rico hunts her through the dark rooms. Sophie moves by memory and fires at the sound of his steps. He fires back. Then her gun clicks empty. Rico finds her and pins her to the floor with his hands around her throat. Sophie kicks and claws at him.
Her hand closes on something heavy. She swings it into his head again and again until he stops moving. Sophie lies in the red light next to him, gasping for air. The house is silent except for her breathing. Then she drags herself across the floor away from him. 4 days later, mom wheels Sophie out of the hospital.
Sophie asks for her backpack and holds it on her lap. Mom is surprised she hasn't lit a cigarette yet. Sophie quit. It's bad for her training. She emailed Parolympics back. In a week, she'll be walking and she wants to be on the hill before the season ends. Mom reminds her she'll need new skis and money for training.
Too bad there was no tip this time. Sophie squeezes the backpack and smiles. Weeks later, Sophie stands at the top of a real ski run with Kelly on a video call. Next to her is Cam, her guide, with a microphone in his helmet. Cam. Kelly. Kelly. Cam. Cam warns Kelly that Sophie was always the better skier.
Kelly asks if she needs to do anything. Just enjoy the ride. Sophie pulls her goggles down. "Hey, Sophie," Kelly says. "Breathe." Sophie pushes off down the mountain. Sophie lost her sight and stopped trusting anyone until a stranger's voice on a phone kept her alive. Through the worst night of her life, she learned that being blind never made her weak.
