Mystery Professor Turns Normal Kids Into Heroes With Powers.
A group of ordinary kids think they’re just attending a new school until a strange professor reveals they’ve been chosen for something bigger. With secret training and hidden powers, their lives are about to change forever.
‘SPOILER ALERT’
A girl named Vista sits in the corner of a train car and sees the other passengers staring at her strangely. One of them seems particularly scared because Vista has a powerful device called the Titan badge with her. Interestingly, the titan badge happens to be a device which can give humans superpowers by altering their DNA when they put it on.
Vista is one of those who has tested the badge, and people like her are called Hyperions. After a while, some agents enter the train with a Professor named Ruckus, who looks relieved to have found Vista. Just then, Vista says she knows that someone named Maya told Ruckus where she was, but the Professor asks how she knows. Vista says that Maya tells him everything that happens, but Ruckus believes that she read his mind. As he scolds her for doing that, Vista mimics him, but she soon gets interrupted by someone who takes a picture of her.
After this, Ruckus tells Vista to hand over the titan badge, but she says it’s not fair. Ruckus doesn’t seem to care, and Vista eventually gives it to him. As Ruckus then sits next to her, he asks where she’s going, but she doesn’t understand why he wants to know. Ruckus says he’s only asking because he’s sure someone named Ansel will want to write a letter to her wherever she is. Vista then says she’s going to New York, and Ruckus mentions that he has a gift for her.
As she opens it, she sees a wristwatch, but Ruckus says it’s actually a compass, which his mother gave to him when he was younger. He adds that his mom always told him that the compass would take him wherever he wanted to go. Vista doesn’t seem to appreciate the gift, and as she puts it on a seat beside her, it falls to the ground, but she just leaves it there.
Vista then says she knows that Ruckus hates her, but he tells her not to think like that. Vista says she knows because she read his mind, but Ruckus mentions that he doesn’t hate her. He adds that he sometimes gets a little frustrated, but it’s not so bad to make him hate her. Vista doesn’t respond to this, but Ruckus asks if she doesn’t mind him riding with her for a while. Vista still doesn’t say anything, and Ruckus mentions that it’s fine if she wants to remain silent.
Fourteen years later, Ruckus opens the Hyperion Museum to showcase most of his work on the Hyperions, including the titan badges. One day, just before the museum closes, Vista sneaks in with Ansel, and they head to the bathroom to change their clothes. After this, they head to the main display room, and Vista breaks the glass box protecting the titan badges.
As the museum’s security alarm starts ringing, Vista brings out her gun and tells the staff to move to a corner of the room. After they obey her instruction, Vista tries to take one of the badges but realizes that it has been locked in. Ansel looks surprised by this, but Vista calls the museum’s manager, Delano, and asks for the key to unlock the badges.
Delano says there isn’t a key for it, and that it can only be unlocked with Ruckus’ fingerprint. Vista looks disappointed because she thought she would just steal the badges with Ansel and escape, but she says that she needs to make a call. Elsewhere, Ruckus happens to be filming an episode for his new TV show called The Hyperions. During the episode, Ruckus mentions that it has been nearly 20 years since the Hyperion story began. He adds that it was the same time he invented the titan badge, which probably doesn’t look like much because of how small it is.
He then mentions that he created each titan badge to be suitable for only one person, who would have it plugged into their DNA to change one piece of their blueprint. He adds that the Titan badge can grant individuals superhuman powers like a real-life superhero. In his search for the right people to give the badges, he found three suitable candidates.
Interestingly, Maya happens to be one of them, and she was given the ability to teleport. Vista was also granted the ability to read and influence minds, while Ansel, who happened to be the youngest, gained super strength and became the strongest human in the world. As Ruckus continues his show, he mentions that he brought the kids into his home and started training them while waiting for the day their powers would be needed.
That day eventually came, and the Hyperions helped out with their powers. For years, they kept on saving the day and helping to maintain world peace. After a while, Ruckus mentions that members of the team always come and go. He adds that every few years, the old members are allowed to leave while new ones are welcomed to the team. He also mentions that he recently said goodbye to the second Hyperion class after Maya, Vista, and Ansel, and that he’s now working on finding new members for the third generation.
He says he has found one person so far, and his name is Apollo. After saying that he’s still looking for two other members worthy of becoming Hyperions, the show ends, and Ruckus leaves the studio. While he’s in his car, his assistant prepares him for an interview with a popular talk show host named Meredith.
Ruckus doesn’t really get why he has to do the interview, but his assistant says that Meredith is influential. Suddenly, someone calls Ruckus’ phone, but his assistant tells him to ignore it because the interview is more important. Back at the museum, it turns out that Vista is calling Ruckus, but he’s not answering his phone. She then calls Delano and writes down a number for him to continue calling until he gets a response. Delano can’t help but ask if she’s the real Vista, but she just ignores the question and tells him to inform her when the call goes through.
As she heads to the main display room, Vista sees Ansel and the security guard, Olly, trying to knock down the security camera. Vista seems confused by this, but Ansel mentions that Olly thinks it’s a good idea to knock down the camera because the police can tap into it. Olly says he’s experienced because he robbed a nearby store a few years ago, but Vista doesn’t seem interested in this.
As some of the other staff come over to meet her to ask if she’s being serious about robbing the store, Vista pulls out her gun and shoots in the air. She then tells the staff members to remain seated because she’s serious about the robbery. Ansel sees that she’s nervous, and he asks if Ruckus picked up her calls. Vista says he didn’t, and Ansel asks what they’ll do next. Vista says she needs to think about their next move, but Ansel just asks Olly if there’s another way out of the building.
Vista then interrupts him and says that they aren’t leaving without the badges. Ansel says he thought the robbery would last only five minutes, but Vista mentions that they didn’t expect the badges to be locked in with the exhibit platform. Almost immediately, someone calls the museum’s landline, and as Delano answers it, he says it’s the police, and that they want to talk to whoever is in charge of the robbery.
Vista just walks away, and Ansel wonders why she left him with the hostages. After this, Vista stares out of the window and sees that many cops have arrived at the scene. She looks disappointed by this because she didn’t expect things to get out of hand.
Elsewhere, Maya takes Apollo on his first mission in East Germany. As they enter the room where some bad guys are holding someone hostage, Apollo gets shot in the chest, but Maya stands up to the men and beats them up. One of them manages to stab her, but she eventually gets the upper hand and overpowers him.
After a while, Maya takes Apollo to a secret clinic to get treated. Even though Apollo didn’t do much on the mission, Maya says he did well, and he seems happy about this. However, Maya suggests using his powers next time because he can turn his skin into metal. Shortly after, Maya gets a call from Ruckus, who tells her to head to the museum immediately because he just heard that there’s a hostage situation happening right there. Following this, Maya gives Apollo some instructions before teleporting herself out of the clinic.
After a while, Maya gets to the museum and meets a detective named Woodcock, who tells her that it seems there’s a hostage situation inside the building. Maya asks if the robbers have made their demands known, but Woodcock says that they’ve not been able to talk to anyone inside. Maya asks about the security cameras, but Woodcock says they’re not functional.
She also asks if Woodcock has tried to call the museum’s landline, but he says that the robbers keep hanging up. Maya then asks if he has tried to knock on the door, but he says he hasn’t. Meanwhile, Vista calls someone to tell him that she has run into a small problem, and she’ll need more time than they discussed. The man asks what the problem is, and Vista says it’s a small one. She adds that everything is fine, but the man still asks when he’ll get the badges.
Before she responds, she hears someone knocking on the door, so she ends the call and heads downstairs. When she opens the door, it turns out to be Maya, who looks shocked to see Vista inside the museum. Maya says that the police think there’s a robbery going on inside, and Vista mentions that there is.
Maya asks if Vista has captured the thieves or spoken to the Professor, but she says she hasn’t. Maya then tells Vista to let her in so they can capture the thieves together, but she says she can’t. She adds that she’s the one robbing the place, but Maya doesn’t believe this. Vista insists that she’s robbing the museum, and she says that she needs Ruckus right away. Maya asks if she has lost her mind, and she tells Vista not to make her teleport herself inside.
Vista then tells her not to bother herself because she has the cork, which is a small device that was created by Ruckus to prevent any abuse of power. With the device, anyone can generate a power-free radius where none of the Titan badges can work. Maya realizes that Vista has already stolen the cork, and she looks shocked by this.
Vista then insists on seeing the Professor, but Maya asks if she’s alone. Vista tries to ignore the question, but Maya realizes that she brought Ansel to rob the museum with her. Vista then says that the museum is off limits to Maya because she only needs Ruckus. Maya refuses to leave, and she teleports Vista away from the scene. As they land on the roof of the building, Maya asks if Vista even knows what she’s doing.
Vista doesn’t seem interested in talking about the robbery, but Maya asks if she thinks it’s a way to reconnect with her and Ruckus. Vista says that the robbery has nothing to do with them, but Maya believes it does. She adds that Vista abandoned them ten years ago and suddenly showed up out of nowhere to rob the museum. Vista says she’s trapped, and Maya suggests helping her and Ansel leave the museum. However, Vista says she can’t go anywhere, and Maya says that Ruckus will be disappointed.
As Maya calls Ruckus her dad, Vista tells her not to call him that. Maya says they both made mistakes in the past, but Vista complains that Ruckus has never acknowledged any of the apology letters she sent. She adds that despite all her efforts as part of his team, he kept dragging her name through the mud.
Maya then tells Vista not to be so eager to destroy Ruckus’ legacy because he cares about her. Vista says that Ruckus only cares about the team and not the people on it. She adds that she can do anything she wants now that she’s no longer an employee, but Maya says she’s wrong because Ruckus never thought of them as employees. Vista then mentions that Ruckus never did that with Maya because she was his favorite. Maya doesn’t believe this, and she mentions that Ruckus cares about all of them equally.
As a helicopter heads toward the roof, Vista decides to go back inside, but Maya tries to stop her. Vista refuses to wait, and she tells Maya not to forget that she was the one who used to read minds. As Maya heads down, she tells Woodcock to leave his men in front of the museum. She also sees a man named Ares staring at her, and she heads toward him. Before he says anything, Maya teleports him away from the scene.
Ares says he has something to tell her, but Maya mentions that she’s busy. Ares says he understands, but he still tells Maya that he wants to rejoin the team. Interestingly, it turns out that Ares used to be a member of the second group of Hyperions before Ruckus allowed him to leave.
Ares says he can train like Maya to become a Hyperion again, but she tells him that it’s not possible. She adds that Ruckus is firm about wanting a new generation of Hyperions, and that Ares has to forget about it. Ares looks disappointed by this, but Maya tells him that Ruckus will ensure he gets all the money he’ll ever need.
After this, she teleports him back to the front of the museum, and he eventually leaves while looking disappointed. Back in the museum, Vista tells Ansel that Maya is around. As he asks what they’ll do next, Vista calls Delano and tells him to help her lock the door. She also suggests placing boxes and other things behind the door to make it hard for anyone to break in. While they’re doing this, Ansel tells Vista that he thinks it’s time for them to start considering the possibility of using the badges to get their powers back in case things get out of hand.
Vista seems confused by this, and she asks if he remembers why they’re robbing the museum. Ansel says he knows, and that the plan is to get the badges and hand them over to the kidnappers who took Vista’s daughter, Ruby. Vista says they need to focus on handing over the badges when they get them, but Ansel believes there’s a possibility that the kidnappers won’t release Ruby after getting them.
As he says that things could be easier if they use the badges, Vista insists that they need to stick to the plan. Elsewhere, Ruckus gets to Meredith’s show, and he’s asked a few questions about the Hyperions and the new generation. After he answers the questions, Meredith asks if he really adopted Ansel and Vista, and he confirms this.
He also mentions that Maya was hired because he felt she could fit in well with the others and assist with their training. Meredith then asks about the rumors that he wanted to replace the hyperions with robots. Ruckus says it’s true, but that he eventually decided against it because he wanted the hyperions to have a heart and be compassionate.
Interestingly, Meredith believes the thought of having robots as hyperions only came because he had problems with his team. Ruckus looks shocked to hear this, but before he responds, Maya interrupts the interview and whispers to him that they have a problem. As Meredith wonders what’s wrong, Ruckus says he’s just late for an appointment.
Elsewhere, Vista enters a room where she watches an old video, which shows the story of how she left the Hyperions. Interestingly, Vista was rebellious while growing up, and she repeatedly tried to leave the Hyperions despite how much Ruckus loved and cared for her. After getting caught trying to leave many times, Vista eventually got her chance and condemned Ruckus in an interview.
She also left the Hyperions and abandoned them to get married to a superstar. This left the Hyperions in danger of collapse, but Ruckus managed to save the team by letting Ansel go so he could assemble a new team of heroes. Vista looks sad to see how her decisions hurt Ruckus, but she suddenly hears a phone ringing.
As she goes to answer it, the kidnapper tells her to grab a pen because she’ll have to make a statement. Back at Ruckus’ office, Maya tells him that Ansel and Vista are the robbers at the museum, and he looks shocked. Maya believes that Vista is in trouble, but Ruckus wonders why she would try to rob his museum as a way to get him to help her.
Maya then scolds Ruckus for not opening any of the letters Vista sent to him over the years, but he says he knows what’s probably inside. He adds that he’s sure Vista just wanted him to send more money to her, but Maya tells him to forget about what happened in the past. Maya says she knows how hurt he was when Vista left, but that he never told the kids how he felt about them.
Ruckus says he didn’t think he had to do that, and he insists that he did all he could for Vista before she abandoned him. Maya then asks for the cork, and Ruckus says it’s in a safe place. Maya realizes that he’s lying, and she heads to her room to pack her things. Ruckus doesn’t get this, but Maya says she can’t believe that he’s lying to her. She adds that she’s starting to believe what Vista said about him.
As he asks what this means, Maya mentions that Vista said he loved the team and not the individuals on it. Ruckus says he hopes Maya doesn’t believe that, but she mentions that she’s not sure what she believes anymore because she’s tired of saying goodbye to the people she loves. Just then, one of Ruckus’ staff informs him that Vista is about to go live from inside the museum.
As he gets to his office, he watches Vista reading a note and telling the public that she and Ansel are the robbers. She adds that they want the titan badges, which can only be unlocked by Ruckus. Elsewhere, Ansel reminisces about the past and thinks about when Ruckus’ PR team made him leave the Hyperions because he went to see Vista after she left.
As he eventually goes to the bathroom, he and Delano realize that there’s someone hiding in the ceiling. Vista quickly comes to their aid and gets the man taken to the main display room. As she then interrogates him to know if he’s a cop, he just ignores her questions.
Vista then calls the leader of the kidnappers, who tells her that the strange man works for him. Vista realizes that the kidnappers are inside the building, and she asks to speak to Ruby. Even though the leader of the kidnappers initially refuses, he eventually allows Vista to talk to Ruby. After she does this, Vista is told that she has only thirty minutes to get the badges. As the call ends, Vista begins to cry because she’s worried that Ruby might get hurt.
A while later, Maya and Ruckus head into the museum alone, and as Ansel sees them, he asks if Vista will tell them about Ruby. Vista doesn’t respond to this, but she leaves to meet Maya and Ruckus. As Ruckus eventually meets Vista, he congratulates her on getting herself and Ansel into a big mess. Vista tries to leave because she wants to check on the hostages, but Ruckus scolds her for holding the staff back against their will. He then asks if she knows the kind of strings he would have to pull to get her and Ansel out of the mess they’re already in.
Before Vista says anything, Maya offers to watch the hostages, but Ruckus says he wants her to stay with him. Vista doesn’t get this, but Ruckus asks why Ansel has to be with her. Vista says they’re partners, but Ruckus looks disappointed at Ansel for getting himself into a big mess. Ruckus then tells Maya to escort Ansel out so that he can talk to Vista alone. After they leave, Ruckus and Vista argue about the robbery and the things that happened years ago.
Meanwhile, Maya asks Ansel how he’s doing, and he says he’s fine. As she asks where he’s staying now, he says he’s living with Vista, and Maya looks shocked. She then asks if he’s still receiving the checks Ruckus sends to him. Ansel says he does, and Maya asks if he shares the money with Vista. Ansel says he does that because Vista and Ruby need him.
Maya then asks who Ruby is, and Ansel says she’s Vista’s five-year-old daughter. Elsewhere, Ruckus keeps calling Vista a spoiled child, but she also blames him for never showing how much he cared for his kids. Ruckus says he doesn’t have to show her anything, and that he’ll give her the badges if she wants them.
Following this, he heads down and unlocks the badges with his fingerprint. As Vista takes one of them to try it, she realizes that it’s a decoy. Ruckus then asks if she expected him to leave the real badges just lying around in the museum. Vista looks sad and begs him to give her the real badges, but he refuses to do this. As he walks away, Vista tells Maya that she’s being forced to steal the badges.
Maya then tries to stop Ruckus from leaving, but Vista suddenly mentions that the kidnappers have her daughter. Ruckus looks shocked as he hears this, and he asks if she just said the word daughter. Maya then gives him the photo of Vista and Ruby that Ansel showed her. Ruckus still doesn’t believe that Vista has a child, and she asks if her dad really thinks she would lie about something like that. Ruckus then says he has seen her do worse, and he remembers when Vista came to his office with her husband and used her powers to force him to give up all the money in his drawer as well as the cork.
Ruckus was disappointed in her, and before she left, he told her that he always knew she would use her powers wrongly. Vista then dropped her titan badge and left with her husband. After a while, she got pregnant and told her husband about it, and he seemed happy. However, he eventually stole her money and ran away because he didn’t think he was ready to have a child. Back in the present, Ruckus leaves the museum and tells Woodcock that there’s not much he can do inside there again.
He also mentions that Woodcock can go in with his men to resolve the situation. Before Woodcock does this, Maya tells him that no one should be allowed to enter the museum. She also tells Woodcock to tell the negotiator to inform Vista that they’ll be back in an hour.
As she then tries to convince Ruckus to change his mind, she gets a call from the White House, telling her that the President wants to see her. Before she leaves, she tells Ruckus to head home and stay there until she returns. Ruckus then tells her to teleport him to his office, but she refuses and tells him to take his car instead.
Meanwhile, Vista looks sad because she might not get Ruby back, and Ansel consoles her. Suddenly, the leader of the kidnappers comes down with Ruby, and it turns out to be Ares. After Ruckus gets to his office, he looks at the picture of Vista and Ruby again. He then notices that Ruby is wearing the compass he gave Vista when she was younger. As he wonders if Ruby is really his granddaughter, he also thinks about what to do with the titan badges.
He initially thinks about giving them up, but the robot parrot in his office tells him not to give away his life’s work. He then thinks about destroying them, but the robot also warns him not to do that. As he wonders what to do next, he eventually leaves the house and returns to the museum even though Maya wanted him to stay back.
When he enters the museum, he sees Ares and his men pointing their guns at Ansel and Vista. Ruckus says he’s not really surprised, and that he should’ve guessed that Ares was behind everything. Ares then says he wants his badge back, but Ruckus tells him to get his men to lower their guns.
Ares refuses to do this, and he talks about how he doesn’t want to be a regular individual. Ruckus still refuses to give up the badge, and Ares blames him for making the public hate Vista. Just then, Ruckus shakes her hand and says it’s a gift from him. As Ares asks for his badge again, Ruckus shows him that he has destroyed it. Ares looks shocked by this, but he tells Ruckus to make a new one for him.
Ruckus says he can’t, and Ares threatens to kill everyone if he doesn’t get a new badge. Ruckus says he won’t do that, and as Ares wonders what he’s talking about, Vista suddenly controls him to turn his gun toward one of his men. Ares looks shocked by this, and he realizes that Vista now has her badge with her. It then turns out that Ruckus actually gave it to her when he shook her hand earlier. As Ares seems pissed, Ruckus throws another badge at Ansel, and he quickly puts it on.
Before Ares and his men start shooting at them, Maya returns from the White House and sees what’s happening. The fight eventually goes on, and Ares gets badly hurt. He then runs to the bathroom to grab Ruby, but Vista sees him. As he tries to convince her that Ruckus is the real enemy, Vista refuses to believe this, and she gets Ruby to hide in one of the stalls while she deals with him.
After the fight ends with all of Ares’ men dying, Ansel, Maya, and Vista go around the museum and realize that they haven’t seen Ruckus. When they eventually see him, he appears to be badly injured, and they quickly get him taken to the hospital. Much later, Ruckus slowly recovers, and Vista goes to see him while he’s with Maya, Ansel, and Ruby. As she enters the room, she sees that Ruckus has now read all the letters she sent over the years. Ansel then tells Ruby that they need to leave the room so that her mom can talk to her grandfather alone.
As she leaves, Ruby says goodbye to Ruckus, and he waves at her. After this, Vista sits next to Ruckus’ bed and mentions that she doesn’t know what to say. Ruckus then taps on the titan badge on her arm, and as she reads his mind, he tells her that he loves her. Vista looks happy about this, and she tells Ruckus that she loves him too.
After initially abandoning Ruckus and stealing from him, Vista eventually seeks his help when her daughter is kidnapped. Ruckus didn’t seem to care about her because of what she did to him in the past, but as he realized that his granddaughter’s life was at stake, he helped Vista take down Ares and the kidnappers. In this story, we learned that no matter how messy the past is, family can still push us to act when it counts.
