Trapped in a Place That Looks Like Heaven, But Isn’t.
A man enters a place that looks like heaven. Peaceful, perfect, and too good to be true. But the longer he stays, the more he starts to feel something is off. Then, he finds out the dark truth.
‘SPOILER ALERT’
Steve has always had a thing for mines. As a kid, he dresses up complete with a pickaxe and loiters in front of the local mine with great hopes of getting in. Sadly, there were absolutely no children allowed. Every single time, Steve gets chased off by the same old dude with incomplete teeth.
Years pass and Steve is now an adult, same terrible sense of style, but different career choice – selling door knobs. He feels as though his soul is dying, but that changes when he recalls his childhood obsession with mines.
Now bigger, he gears up with a headlamp and his trusty pickaxe and comes face to face with the same old dude. This time, he easily runs past him. Steve goes on to mine to his heart’s content and even comes across some ancient artifacts – an orb and a crystal.
Putting these two artifacts together, he opens a portal to another realm known only as Overworld. Steve immediately likes it there; the air is cleaner, and the scenery is nothing short of amazing. Within days, Steve realizes that he can create whatever he wants, so he makes three houses, two out of bricks, and the third out of sheep’s wool alone.
The only downside to the Overworld is that nighttime happens every 20 minutes, and with it, comes zombies.
By daybreak, a lonely Steve hears the howl of a wolf. This wolf had come to eat Steve, but he wins it over with thigh bone, and names the wolf Dennis. Together, they have the best time and Steve goes on to build even more exquisite houses.
Ultimately, he creates a theme park and names it Steve’s World.
The years fly by until Steve comes across some ruins and a chest right beside them. Inside the chest, he finds some flint and steel, so Steve completes the structure and strikes the flint against steel. Just like that, a portal opens up and Dennis runs into it without thinking, leaving Steve no choice but to follow.
Unfortunately, they opened a portal to the Nether, a new dimension where creativity is considered sin. It’s flooded with evil piglins only interested in mining for gold; they’d mined the life out of the Nether.
Their leader, an evil piglin sorceress named Malgosha, wonders why Steve is so round in a world full of cubes, but Steve is more worried about Dennis. In turn, Malgosha captures both of them and retrieves the orb of dominance, hoping to use it to control the affairs of the Overworld.
Locked up, Steve realizes that he has to do something to stop Malgosha. Dennis steals the keys to their cell and they break out that night. Steve then steals the orb of dominance, rubs his scent on it, and hands it to Dennis with specific instructions. The wolf is to head to Steve’s home at Holly Oak Drive and hide the orb there.
It’s the last time they speak, seeing as Steve gets captured seconds later. Luckily, Dennis escapes into Overworld and then back to earth, following the doggy door into Steve’s apartment. As he dumps the orb and crystal under Steve’s bed, they separate, closing the portal to Overworld.
Enter Garrett Garrison, a former video gaming champion known as the garbage man, and owner of Game Over World, an arcade store with so little business a lemonade stand would make more profit than it.
Right then, a mailwoman delivers an eviction notice to Garrett, and all the spunk he started the day with seeps out.
He rides over to a storage auction to feel better, and the auctioneer mentions a unit with a 1978 Atari cosmos, a collector’s gaming console. Garrett outbids everyone else because of this, only to empty the cosmos box and find a bunch of trash, including the orb and crystal.
Sadly, he has no idea how important they are and just leaves them on the floor as he throws a tantrum about not getting his Atari cosmos. To make things worse, his car gives out on his way back home and Garett comes out of it just to scream for a while.
Meanwhile, Henry, a talented creative, and his big sister, Natalie, are driving over to Chuglass Idaho to start over after losing their mom. Although young herself, Natalie’s old enough to pass for Henry’s legal guardian. They drive past Garrett, who’s screaming and sobbing, and into Chuglass.
They meet Dawn, an energetic real estate agent, who hands them a package from the potato chip factory where Natalie got a job as their social media consultant. For some reason, Dawn also runs a mobile zoo out of her car, but she passes it off as normal, and hands Natalie the keys to their new place.
The siblings move in and set up their rooms that night. By morning, Natalie prepares a tater tot pizza for Henry, just like their mom used to, and asks him to take it to school. She also gets him perfume, but the youngster doesn’t really like it.
As Henry rides to school, Garrett’s arcade store catches his eye. He stops by to check it out and just walks by the orb and crystal sitting on a shelf. In turn, Garrett offers to mentor Henry for a fee, and even advises him to leave the tater tot pizza if he ever wants to make friends.
With this, Henry heads over to Chuglass highschool, where he meets with Vice principal Marlene, an oversharer.
Getting to class, he meets the gym and arts teacher, Mr. Clemente, who’s also Marlene’s ex husband. Clemente asks the class to draw a banana and an orange. While everyone goes at it normally, Henry draws his banana wearing a jetpack. His teacher doesn’t like this, and two other boys in his class claim that it’s impossible.
Taking this as a challenge, Henry uses improvised equipment to create a makeshift jetpack and straps it to the skeleton from the biology lab, not knowing that the boys from his class cut one of its wires to sabotage him.
Mr Clemente and the rest of Henry’s class count down to zero before Henry sets off the jetpack. Meanwhile, his big sister is giving a presentation at the potato chip factory nearby.
The jetpack takes off in perfect condition, only to malfunction mid-air. It goes haywire, twirling until it bumps into the mascot at the top of the potato chip factory, and explodes.
Luckily, nobody gets hurt in the process. This is the only reason why Marlene doesn’t expel Henry. She does ask him to bring a guardian though. Not wanting to disturb Natalie, Henry calls up Garrett, offering him 26 dollars to pretend to be his uncle.
Minutes later, Garrett pulls up in front of the school, picks up Henry, and says hi to Marlene, who for some reason, really likes him. They then drive back to the arcade store, where Henry is so discouraged that he dumps his book of ideas.
He circles back to the orb and crystal, picking them up as Garette pulls out a set of instructions left with the artifacts. It explicitly warns them not to combine the artifacts, but after sharing knowing looks with Garrett, Henry combines them anyway.
The orb begins to glow, pulling Henry in the direction of the local mineshaft.
Meanwhile, Natalie is worried sick about her brother not being home yet. She calls Dawn for help and the real estate agent comes running. She lets slip that Henry is responsible for the explosion earlier and then finds his location using Natalie’s phone. Shortly after, the duo get in Dawn’s car, and head towards the mineshaft.
At the mine, Henry and Garrett disregard the danger sign out front and follow the orb deeper into it. Dennis then shows up, lurking around the gate.
Stepping in, the orb leads them to the same portal Steve went through, and as they come closer to it, Dawn and Natalie rush inside. A worried Natalie gives her little brother hell, but he’s so unbothered that he goes on to introduce Garrett. Just then, the orb begins to pull Henry into the portal.
Garrett tries to hold him back, but he’s not strong enough. Natalie joins him, and so does Dawn, but the orb easily pulls all four of them into the Overworld. Their landing is not so graceful, but they shake it off as they start to explore.
Some non-player character (NPC) named Nitwit lets curiosity get the best of him and crosses the portal into Earth.
Meanwhile, Malgosha is busy terrorizing some poor piglin when she sees a sign that the orb has returned to overworld. Immediately, she and her men head down to the dungeon to strong-arm Steve into getting it for her.
Steve almost betrays Malgosha on the spot, but she dangles Dennis’s collar before him, pretending to have the dog in her custody. This way, Steve has to get the orb in exchange for Dennis.
On the other hand, Nitwit makes his way out of the mineshaft, crossing paths with Dennis, who’s on his way in.
In the Overworld, Garrett tries to communicate with one of the sheep, only for night time to arrive in the blink of an eye. Dennis, having arrived, howls at the moon, and everything alive, including the sheep, makes a run for it.
Garrett and the others don’t understand why until it starts raining flaming arrows. Garrett flees the scene first, but ends up in falling into a ditch. Henry, on the other hand, bumps into a pillar, losing possession of the orb. The force from the collision converts the block into a little one, and while his sister and Dawn hurry him up, Henry punches another block, turning it into a smaller one just like he expected.
This way, he realizes he can build stuff with these boxes. At this point, undead skeletons cover the distance.
As for Garrett, he’s surrounded by a bunch of these skeletons, but digs his way into a tunnel before they kill him with flaming arrows. Henry builds some kind of fort around himself and the others, forgetting the orb outside.
Garrett digs his way out of the tunnel, only for a creeper to sneak up on him. Scared, he punches the poor creeper and it bursts with so much force that the explosion blows Garrett away. It also draws the attention of other zombies. They swarm towards the garbage man in no time, forcing him to run and scream in no particular order.
Henry calls out to him from their tower top, but Garrett is distracted by the orb. He picks it up, only to have the crystal shattered by a flaming arrow. Unfortunately, only the orb is left, and the portal back to Earth closes.
Shoving the orb down his pants, Garrett returns to worrying about his safety. One of the zombies sneaks into Henry’s fort, and he and the other two combine efforts to push it down the tower. This means more zombies for poor Garrett to deal with.
So many of them swarm him that Henry has to pull Garrett into the tower and cover it up again. Too bad an explosion blows a hole in their fort. Filing in, the zombies make their way to the top, forcing Henry and the others to cower in a corner.
Suddenly, a messiah appears – good Ol’ Steve. He defeats all the zombies, even plucking off the hand of one of them and smacking him with it. By the time they try to get back up, the sun rises. They burn to a crisp in the presence of everyone, making Steve look even cooler.
He introduces himself after this, and informs the crew that they can’t return to earth without the earth crystal. Annoyed at Garrett, Dawn takes the orb from him and hands it back to Henry.
In turn, Steve agrees to help them get to Woodland mansion where they can replace the Earth crystal, but on the condition that they give him the orb when he succeeds. Garrett and Steve then shake on it like men, and Steve announces that they’ll be heading to mid port village to gear up.
Back on earth, Marlene runs over Nitwit. She checks on him and the only thing weird to her is his huge head. To atone, she offers to take him out for dinner.
Steve and the crew arrive at midport village, where the villagers are pacifists and vegetarians. He goes on to assure Henry that he can build anything he dreams of, only for an iron golem to scare the heck out of Natalie. Steve has to assure her that the golem is just there for local security.
Shortly after, Garrett complains about being hungry, so Steve takes them to a chicken shack, where he cooks an entire chicken with lava. It’s so hot that Steve can’t even take a bite, but Garrett plays tough and ends up whimpering like a little girl.
Back in the Nether, Malgosha gets some disturbing news. Her response is to call for General Chungus, a high ranking piglin. She then commands him to find Steve and his companions, kill them, and fetch her the orb.
She hands him a nether wart, a potion that stops piglins from turning into zombies when they enter the Overworld. Chungus takes a sip and hands it over to one of his men, asking them to pass it around.
Natalie gives Steve hell, complaining about wanting to get her brother out.
Steve thinks Henry’s creativity could help him survive in the Overworld, but Natalie just sees it as the reason why Henry’s always getting picked on back on Earth. Henry overhears her and just storms off, claiming that he’s better off in the Overworld.
Noticing that Natalie’s sad, Dawn takes to go get a map.
Meanwhile, the boys follow Steve into his arsenal where he keeps everything from explosives down to countless blades.
Garrett comes across an ender pearl, an object capable of teleporting you to wherever you throw it. Garrett doesn’t believe it, so he tries it out, and screams his head off when he actually teleports.
Moving on, Steve takes them to the crafting table, where you can combine elements in different patterns to create whatever you like. He makes a blade as an example, and Garrett, feeling the need to prove himself, tries to make something too. Unfortunately, he makes buckets that look like nunchucks.
Henry gives it a go, combining everything from metal to tater tots, and ends up with what he calls a tot launcher. Steve is amazed by the youngster’s talent.
Garrett calls Steve aside after this, reminding him of the note he attached to the orb – the one about riches. Steve casually admits to keeping some diamonds at the redstone mines, but it’s a major detour from the Woodland mansion. In turn, Garrett makes it clear that without the diamonds, Steve won’t be getting the orb.
Meanwhile, Natalie and Dawn arrive at the map store but only get a few words in before the village alarms go off. To this dismay, Chungus and his men are flying in, in large numbers, forcing the villagers to run like crazy.
Per Chungus’s request, the other piglins begin to thrash the village, upturning tables and firing arrows. Natalie and Dawn almost get caught in the crossfire, so they quickly hide behind a table. Steve, on the other hand, comes out with a shield, escorted by Garrett and Henry, of course.
It gets to a point where Chungus and Steve lock eyes and the latter immediately hates the situation even more. He warns the others about Chungus, but Garrett still wants to fight him, with his bucket nunchucks, no less.
He knocks out Steve in the process, only to get his butt severely kicked by Chungus. Henry, on the other hand, takes multiple piglins down using his Tot launcher.
At the same time, Natalie and Dawn realize that they can’t stay hidden forever. They use the table as a weapon to take down two piglins and then grab a hoe and a shovel, using them to kick butt respectively. While Garrett continues to take a beating, Natalie continues to dish out the same.
It gets to a point where Garrett is almost killed, but thanks to the iron golem smacking Chungus into oblivion, he survives. Steve wakes up and immediately gets the boys to follow him to the rampart.
As they run, balls of flames fall from the fire-spitting piglins, putting even more panic into Natalie. She almost runs after her brother, but Dawn convinces her that they’ll all meet up at the Woodland mansion.
Steve pulls out Elytra wingsuits, but he only has two. Henry goes first, not because he wants to, but because Garrett pushes him off the rampart. Luckily, the wings kick into action right before he crashes into the ocean.
With more piglins on their tail, Garrett jumps, leaving Steve to notice that he can’t stay there. Steve joins Garrett, jumping on his back and steering him like some bird. However, it doesn’t stop the piglins from chasing them
One of the piglins somehow jumps and holds onto Henry’s leg, not letting go no matter how much he slams it against the mountain. All the while, balls of flames never stop coming.
As for Steve, they’re pursued not only by flying piglins, but by hog riders too. Some of them jump from the mountains onto Garrett’s body, forcing him and Steve to think up a solution. To escape the fire-spitting piglins, they switch positions, going head to toe and narrowly fitting through a hole in the mountain up ahead. A ball of flames escorts them, but they make it through.
That leaves Henry. To get rid of the piglin on his leg, he pulls out a firework and uses the force to kick the piglin into the mouth of a fire-spitting piglin. As it explodes in the distance, he’s pushed into Steve and Garrett, derailing their trajectory. Seeing as they’ll fall to their deaths, Steve quickly pulls out a bucket of water, pours it on a patch of land, and uses it to break their fall.
Natalie and Dawn find the map seller rowing away in a boat. They try to catch up to him but fail miserably, so Dawn suggests they take another route.
Back on earth, Marlene’s dinner with Nitwit seems to be going pretty well, despite the fact that she’s the only one talking.
Meanwhile, Garrett and Henry complain about everything, especially Malgosha. In response, Steve breaks into a story about how she wasn’t always a villain. It all started at “Nether’s Got Talent”, where Malgosha tried to be creative with her dancing. All the other piglins laughed at her so much that even her dad was embarrassed. From that day, she denounced all forms of creativity and promised to blot it out of the overworld.
Henry wonders why Steve would give her the orb if he knows this, and Steve clarifies that he just needs the orb for leverage.
They continue their journey, but Garrett flashes the orb before Steve’s eyes, reminding him about their deal. With that, they head to the redstone mines first.
Angry at Chungus for failing, Malgosha releases the great hog, a ginormous piglin, and has him kill Chungus on the spot. She then sends him to the Overworld to complete the mission.
It’s nighttime in overworld and Dawn and Natalie are lost. They defeat zombies while talking about how hard adulthood is. Just then, they hear a howl, only for the wolf to come after. Natalie wants to kill it, but Dawn simply entices it with a bone. The wolf mellows out soon, and its collar appears with the name Dennis engraved.
They realize that he’s Steve’s pet, and Dennis is more than happy to take them to his master’s location.
Then, Steve leads the boys into the redstone mines, explaining how redstones conduct energy. Garrett steps on a booby trap, suffers the consequences, and eventually flips a lever which opens the door to Steve’s diamond stash.
Henry discovers that Steve and Garrett planned to come here all along and he’s not happy about it in the least. Unfortunately, the great hog chooses now to burst into the redstone mines, and Steve screams for the others to run towards the mine carts.
They obey, and the moment they get into them, the redstone-powered rail moves their cart at incredible speed. Unfortunately, they get derailed to the left where there are no redstones. There’s also the problem of creepers.
With the great hog approaching, the others force Garrett to get out and push the cart, while Henry slaps the creepers to get them to explode. The great hog comes mere inches away from them before they make it back to the redstone rail, and they blast off, leaving the beast to explode alongside the creepers.
Finding safety, Henry scolds Garrett for being so selfish. In response, garbage man admits that he’s too broke not to think about money, not to mention being alone. This does nothing to change Henry’s mind. Within minutes, the woodland mansion comes into view, and Steve explains that it has three floors.
The first is swarming with Vindicators, practical murderers with axes, and the second with Evokers, wielders of powerful dark magic. At this point, Garrett interrupts Steve to return the orb he stole from Henry, making the youngster even angrier.
Moving on, Steve clarifies that the third floor houses the loot chamber, where they can find the earth crystal. Too bad it’s protected by an enderman, capable of frying your brains if you look him in the eyes.
Seeing as they need a distraction, Garrett and Steve put on a show for the vindicators on the first floor, holding their attention long enough for Henry to sneak upstairs.
Then, two stray vindicators catch him just by the stairs and chase him all the way to the third floor. He shuts the door behind him in time, only to realize that the loot chamber contains way too much loot.
Meanwhile, Steve is tied to the edge of a wrestling ring and Garrett is left to go up against a baby zombie riding a freaking chicken. He gets slammed into, and flies across the ring like a wayward frisbee. The second Garrett gets back up, the chicken and the zombie tag-team him, bringing him to the ground once again.
Upstairs, Henry is busy going through boxes in search of the earth crystal. Eventually, he finds the crystal but an enderman shows up, forcing him to shut his eyes immediately.
Garrett is losing so badly, but manages to use the bungee cords of the ring to smack the fight out of the zombie. At least it’s what he thinks when the zombie begins to cry. Despite Steve warning him, Garrett tries to pet the zombie, only for it to bite Garrett’s fingers.
Upstairs, Henry has the misfortune of opening his eyes. The enderman messes with his head, taking the forms of Garrett, Steve, and even Natalie to talk down on him. Henry shakes himself free of the enderman’s clutches and axes it down until he retrieves an ender pearl.
Meanwhile, the zombie climbs the edge of the ring, and jumps, hoping to crash into Garrett’s chest. Luckily, Steve unties himself in time to slam into the zombie mid-air, sending him flying across the room.
While the zombie is crying, Henry lands in the middle of the ring, informing the others that he has the earth crystal. Together, the three of them run like hell. They only make it to the bridge before Malgosha and her men come flying in.
Easily, she uses her staff to summon the orb, and it attaches itself to said staff. She then flies off, instructing her subordinates to kill the humans. In obedience, her piglins jump down with numerous explosives, planning to blow the bridge to smithereens.
Thinking on his feet, Garrett grabs Henry and throws him onto one of the fire-spitting piglins, and Steve joins him soon enough. Instead of joining them, Garrett offers to stay back and fight alone. Too bad he gets blown up alongside the bridge.
The explosion nicks their fire-spitting piglin, causing Steve and Henry to crash and lose consciousness. Steve is the first to wake up and he finds Dennis licking his face. Apparently, the wolf led Natalie and Dawn right to Steve. Henry wakes up a little later and he and his sister make up.
Using the orb, Malgosha fires a beam that blocks the sun, making it night time every time. Seconds later, piglins start flooding into the Overworld like ants to sugar.
Noticing this, Steve and the others resolve to steal back the orb and end things once and for all. In turn, Henry pulls out his book of ideas and helps everyone get reading.
Dawn crafts some iron ingots and goes on to blow up some skeletons, feeding their bones to Dennis and other wolves. Steve mines diamonds, and Natalie crafts a sword out of them. After preparations are done, the crew heads out.
Meanwhile, Malgosha addresses her piglins, instructing them to go forth and spread havoc, and to make sure they fetch her all the gold in the Overworld.
Using the iron ingots and some redstone, Henry crafts iron golems, making the biggest one with the boots of swiftness. They form a line of defense against the piglins, and the moment they’re shot at, the iron golems retaliate with brute force.
Piglins get destroyed left and right, creating a window for Naralie and Henry to join the fight.
Malgosha realizes that her piglins are losing, so she sends forth another great hog to even the playing field. This mighty beast jumps down, and takes out golems like they’re legos. The only golem matching its size and strength is the one with the boots of swiftness.
While they fight it out, Steve approaches Malgosha covered in diamond armor. She readies her staff, and it crackles with purple lightning as Steve runs in her direction. Malgosha fires off some lightning at him, only for Steve to jump high into the air, hoping to get a secret attack in.
Sadly, he just slams into the ground right before Malgosha and she shatters his diamond armor with her lightning. She tries for a second attack but Steve rolls over in time to dodge, retaliating by firing a bunch of eggs at her.
Down below, the great hog sinks a boatload of lightning into the giant golem, sending it flying into the distance. While this is going on, Henry loads the ender pearl into his tot launcher, shoots it at the spot where the orb is situated, and teleports there in a split second.
Consequently, the great hog notices this and tries to go after him. Natalie bravely blocks its path, only for Dawn to show up with Dennis and a pack of wolves. On her command, they attack the great hog, buying Henry some time.
Just as Henry’s about to retrieve the orb, the great hog opens fire in his direction. The explosion sends him falling and the great hog fires another shot to finish him off. Everyone from Natalie down to Steve scream for the boy’s life, only for Garrett to fly in on a fire-spitting piglin and grab Henry mid-air.
Apparently, Garrett jumped off the bridge and used Steve’s water bucket trick to break his fall. As everyone cheers him on, Garrett asks Henry to grab a spear and pierce the fire-spitting piglin’s tentacles. He does this and it spits out multiple fireballs at the nether portal, blowing it to pieces and forcing out the orb.
Just like that, the skies clear up, giving way for the sun to transform all the piglins into zombies, and the zombies into ashes.
The orb falls in front of the great hog, but the moment it picks it up, Henry’s giant golem returns with a vengeance. It delivers a flawless uppercut so powerful that the beast flies for a moment. The golem then flies to the hog’s level and punches it into the ground, letting the orb out of its grasp.
Natalie catches the orb on its way down, and links up with Dawn, Garrett, and Henry. While they hug it out, Steve finishes things with Malgosha, who’s now too weak to do anything. She tries a sneak attack twice, but Steve easily knocks the daggers out of her hand, and then walks away.
All five of them walk down to the earth portal, where they say their goodbyes. Dawn plans to take Dennis with her with Steve’s go ahead, of course. In turn, Steve bursts into tears saying goodbye to his beloved wolf. He and Garrett shake like real men, and Garrett tries to convince Steve to come back to earth with them.
Steve doesn’t budge, so everyone bids him goodbye and crosses the portal back to earth. After a few moments of thinking it through, Steve runs after them, bringing the magic from the Overworld into Earth.
As a team, the five of them go on to create a successful game known as the Block City Battle Buddies, with Steve and Garrett becoming partners at his arcade store.
Dawn and Dennis open a real zoo, Natalie launches a self-defense dojo, and her brother, Henry, finally gets his jetpack up and running. He flies it to school one morning, and everyone looks at him with so much admiration.
In other news, Nitwit and Marlene confess their love for each other, and she says yes when Nitwit asks if she’ll marry him.
What had started as a pipe dream for Henry was finally brought to reality. A bunch of misfits, having no real place in life, somehow found each other. They were transported to another world and still found a way to work together to defeat evil and make their way back to earth.
It doesn’t have to make sense to the people looking from the outside in; just let your creativity flow.
