The Magic Kids Three Unlikely Heroes (2020) Full Recap

Long ago, the night belonged to monsters. Vampires, werewolves, witches, and trolls spread fear wherever people lived. Over the centuries, they changed. Most of them gave up scaring humans for good. Others moved to hidden towns that can only be reached through magical forests. Vlad is one of them.

He's a young vampire, and he's never felt like a real one. He's sitting in his father's old car as it winds through a foggy forest. His father, Barnabas, has been driving for hours. They're on their way to a town called Crlesfeld where the mayor himself has invited Vlad to a famous school for magical kids.

The car stops at an old stone bridge. Out of nowhere, a bearded troll steps up to the window. He wants their papers. He reads them and looks straight at Vlad. Then he flips open an old book and mutters a strange prophecy. When time turns backward, one will come and three will unite.

Then he waves them across. Somehow I thought he'd be a lot bigger. Railsfeld looks like it fell out of another century. Old cars roll down cobblestone streets past crooked houses. Barnabas points out the huge town hall. A famous poem says that when its clock strikes 13, the world as we know it will end.

Then a cyclist swerves in front of them and crashes. His bike has suddenly turned into an old penny farthing. The town's constable storms over and blames Vlad for the trick. He hasn't even started school yet, and he's already in trouble. The constable says he'll be keeping an eye on him.

Their new home is a crooked old building that's barely standing. Barnabas plans to live upstairs and open an antique shop downstairs. He squeezes the car into a tiny spot and starts unpacking his treasures. Vlad isn't excited. He's afraid he'll make a fool of himself at the new school.

His dad pulls him into a long hug until Vlad can't breathe. That night, Barnabas talks to a photo of his late wife. Tomorrow is Vlad's big day, he tells her. Then a man from the tax office knocks on the door. He hands over a long list of taxes and fees. If Barnabas can't pay within 7 days, they'll lose the house and have to leave Crafeldon.

Barnabas begs, but the man won't listen. In the morning, Barnabas is still at his desk. He's been up all night. He walks Vlad to school, but he has to run to the town hall first. He promises he'll be back in time for the opening. In the schoolyard, two bullies are picking on a boy with curly red hair and glasses.

Vlad steps up beside him. Then a blonde girl named Fay joins them. Now it's three against two. The bullies laugh and walk off to grab good seats for the show. The boy's name is Wolf. He says he could have fled the bully himself, but he didn't want anyone to get hurt. He's so excited about the new school year that he's drooling.

Then his mom rushes over and calls him Wolfie in front of everyone. Wolf tells her Vlad is his new friend. At the town hall, Barnabas asks to pay the taxes a little at a time. The mayor's assistant, Miss Cersamire, smiles at him. Every new citizen has to pay, she says. Then she asks about something special.

He owns a small red pointy stone that hangs on a chain. The blood fragment. At school, Vlad is waiting for his dad by himself. A man in a flat cap tells him not to miss the opening speech. He somehow knows Vlad's name. Inside, the hall is packed with parents and kids. The head mistress explains that seven is a magic number.

In their seventh year, the students will start to take over the gifts of their families. Back at the town hall, a bald man with a pointed beard walks in. It's the mayor, Lewis Ziffer. He welcomes Barnabas warmly and offers him a nice price for the blood fragment. Barnabas tells him it belonged to his late wife and Vlad would never give it up.

Ziffer says they'll find a way. He makes sure Barnabas comes to the solar eclipse festival on the town square in 2 days. At school, the seventh graders are called to the front one by one. Wolf, Fay, and Vlad all line up. Each of them will have to show what they can do. One kid after another shows off a gift and the parents clap.

Then it's Wolf's turn. His parents cheer him on from the crowd. Wolf starts to change. Fur sprouts all over his face and hands. And then the sneezing starts. Vlad can't help laughing. Fa spreads her elf wings and flies up. Halfway to the ceiling, she panics. It's too high. She screams for help and comes crashing down right next to Vlad.

Both of them end up on the floor. Vlad has bitten his lip and there's blood on his hand. One look at it and he gets sick in front of the whole school. A bully films everything on his phone. At home, Vlad wants to leave Crayals Felden. He was supposed to become a proper vampire this year.

Instead, he's the new freak, a vampire who can't stand blood. Barnabas promises it'll come with time. For now, they'll start with a glass of blood orange juice every morning. Wolf's evening isn't any better. A doctor confirms he's allergic to fur. His father is the leader of the werewolf pack and he's furious.

The others are going to laugh their fur off. They'll laugh their fur off. That night, the whole town is asleep. A witch in a tall black hat creeps into Vlad's house. Barnabas is still awake downstairs, but he doesn't notice a thing. She waves her hands and a creepy wooden claw crawls across the floor toward Vlad's bed.

Moments later, the witch has the blood fragment. The witch takes the fragment to Ziffer. He reaches for it, but the stone vanishes. It's protected by a recall spell, so it always goes back to its owner. It can only change hands if its owner gives it away of his own free will. Zephr needs Vlad to hand it over.

At school the next day, everyone is watching the video of Vlad getting sick. One of the bullies drops to the floor and pretends he's bleeding to death. Everyone laughs as Vlad hurries off. The man in the flat cap steps in and hands the bullies a broom. Vlad has had enough. He packs his bag and heads into the forest to run away.

Fay is already there. She can't show her face in Crayfeld anymore either. Then they hear sneezing. It's Wolf with a tiger backpack. He wants to go out and have adventures. So, his dad will finally see he's a real werewolf. They reach the bridge and the troll blocks the way. Nobody leaves until the prophecy in his book comes true, he says.

Wolf puffs up and tells him he wouldn't like him when he's angry. The troll doesn't care. He roars and comes after them. Just then, the man in the flat cap jumps in front of the kids. He's a wizard. He throws a spell at the troll, but it's the wrong one. The troll ends up in a pink tutu, and the kids run for it.

He takes them to his house. His name is Mr. Hannipel, and he's the school caretaker. He isn't allowed to do magic at school anymore, ever since a flying classroom went wrong. He makes them hot chocolate with a magic word. A vampire who can't stand blood, an elf who's afraid of flying, and a werewolf with a fur allergy. [clears throat] He says that's very unusual.

There's no other way out of Crlesfeld. A magical forest surrounds the town and anyone who walks into it comes out where they started. But one thing is strange. The troll only checks who comes in. Everyone is allowed to leave, so why not them? While he makes more Coco, the kids flip through one of his old books.

A page points them to a forbidden library. Somewhere inside is a book that knows everything. If it explains the prophecy, the three of them could be heroes. Wolf's dad would be proud of him, and the troll would have to let them leave. On the way, Fa sprinkles a little elven dust on a broken flower, and it stands up again.

Vlad tells her he grew up among humans. Until he was four, he didn't even know he was a vampire. His mom died in an accident. The red stone on his chain is all he has left of her. Fay knows a little about crystal magic. She can tell it's under a recall spell. Behind a secret door, they find a stone map of the forbidden library.

The book is on shelf 313. The way is guarded by a giant dog with glowing red eyes. Wolf pulls out his lunch, a bag full of treats. He'll keep the dog busy. Next comes a deep, dark abyss. Vlad remembers what his dad calls his noseratu sensor. Bats find their way with sound and maybe he can too.

He sends a sound into the darkness and listens. There are hidden pillars out there. Fay holds on tight and closes her eyes. They jump from one invisible pillar to the next until they make it across. Back at the shop, the head mistress calls Barnabas. Vlad has run away from school.

Then Miss Cersei walks in. She gets very close to Barnabas. If Vlad sells the blood fragment, she says the two of them could stay in Crayfelden forever. Barnabas just smiles and tries to sell her an antique beard trimmer. The book of all knowledge sits high up on a tower of shelves.

Fay flies up with her eyes shut while Vlad calls out directions. Left, higher, a little higher. Below them, Wolf is running out of treats. They get the book down just in time and slip away. Outside, they notice something. Wolf spent all that time next to a furry dog, and he didn't sneeze once.

Meanwhile, Zephr is shouting at his witch. He needs that fragment. She shows him the kids in her magic mirror. They have the book under a tree. The kids open it. The book warns about Lord Lucifer the Terrible. He can't stand that the creatures of the night have become peaceful. He wants to turn back time so every vampire and werewolf becomes a monster again.

Then they'll be his army of darkness and take the world back for him. It's all supposed to happen at the 13th hour, but the last page has been torn out. Ziffer tore that page out himself centuries ago. Now the witch mixes a potion and casts a curse on the kids. Their words will turn around in their mouths.

The three friends agree to tell their parents and they split up. Vlad rushes home to warn his dad. But when Barnabas says Miss Cersamire wants to buy the blood fragment, Vlad hears himself say, "That's great. Everything comes out backward." His dad is thrilled. He can't stop talking about her lovely nose.

And doesn't she have a lovely nose? Tomorrow, Vlad will go with him to the town hall to sell the stone. The three get on the phone. The same thing happened to all of them. It's a reverse curse. Whatever they try to tell anyone else comes out as the opposite, but with each other, they can talk normally because all three of them were hit.

So, they'll have to stop Lucifer on their own. They agree to meet at the fountain at 8. Vlad stays up all night reading about the town's history. Then, it clicks. The old poem about the town hall clock striking 13. the bike that turned old in front of the town hall. Time is running backward there.

In the morning, Fay and Wolf have news, too. Only dark crystal magic can turn back time. Vlad remembers his blood fragment glowing when they drove past the town hall. It's far too small for a spell that big, unless something makes it stronger. Right then, a girl's new phone turns into an old one.

They have to get inside that town hall. The constable guards the entrance. Vlad has an idea. Vampires don't show up on camera, so Fay keeps the constable busy with a long speech about his monitors while Vlad walks right past them, invisible on every screen. Wolf keeps watch outside on a walkietalkie.

FaZe crystals start going crazy. Something in the tower is pulling at them. Up in the tower, Vlad finds a huge red crystal sitting on a pile of skulls. His blood fragment pulls toward it. As soon as it touches the crystal, a burst of red light fills the room. Then footsteps. Zifer is coming.

Vlad tears the fragment loose and runs. Outside, he tells the constable he's on a school trip. Vlad's fragment is a piece of that giant crystal. Fay says crystals like this are only given to special guardians, one in every generation. Vlad's mom must have been a powerful sorceress.

His dad never told him. In the tower, Ziffer sniffs the air. The vampire boy was here. For a thousand years, he has hunted down every piece of this crystal. Only one fragment is still missing, and a child has it. Then Fay notices Wolf's backpack. The time magic turned it old. Maybe it worked on the book, too.

They open it, and the torn out pages are back. At the 13th hour, when Mann's chariot catches up with his sister and knocks her from her burning throne, Lucifer will raise his army in the blood red light. Wolf has no idea who Mani is. One quick search later, they know. Mani rides the moon across the sky, and his sister is the sun.

It's the solar eclipse. And that's today. On the next page is a picture of Lucifer. It's the mayor, Ziffer. In a few hours, the whole town will gather right under the tower for the eclipse festival. The crystal's light will hit every one of them at once. Up in the tower, Zifer is done waiting.

Time is running out and he's going after the kids himself. There's only one way to stop him. The blood fragment has to leave Crdon. And because of the recall spell, it would always come back to Vlad. So Vlad has to leave too forever. Fay and Wolf want to come with him, but then who would protect the town.

The three of them hug goodbye. At the bridge, the troll checks his book again. This time it says Vlad may leave and save the town. But once he crosses, he can never come back. The troll says farewell and Vlad steps onto the bridge. Then Ziffer shows up and now he has horns. He has Fay.

The blood fragment stays. He says Vlad has 1 hour to bring it to the town hall or that's the end of his fairy friend. Barnabas is still worried about his son. Miss Cersei tells him to forget about Vlad. He can adore her for the next hundred years instead. And Barnabas just smiles.

Then Barnabas sees black magic swirling around the town hall. He grabs an old telescope from his shop. It shows when someone's up to no good. through it. He sees Ziffer with horns. He spins around. Miss Cersei has been working for Zifer all along, and she bewitched him. Nothing is going to stop him from helping his son.

At the top of the tower, Fay begs Vlad not to hand it over. Ziffer says the kids should thank him. Soon they'll be what they were always meant to be. Vlad holds out the blood fragment and gives it to him. Down in the square, the whole town looks up at the sun through eclipse glasses.

The moon slides across it. Up in the tower, Lucifer stands over the crystal with his skull staff. The clock starts to strike and the kids count each bell. The world was born out of darkness, he says. And that's how it will end. 11, 12, 13, and nothing happens. Lucifer can't believe it.

Vlad tells him that before they came up, he gave the fragment to Mr. Hannipel. A thousand years of planning, ruined by three kids, ruined by three useless brats. Lucifer explodes with rage. He throws Fay off the tower, but this time she spreads her wings and flies. Then his friends shout to Wolf.

The Magic Kids Three Unlikely Heroes (2020) Ending Explained

They need a strong, fearless werewolf now. Wolf's body starts to change, and this time it works. He grows into a real werewolf. At the shop, the witch asks Barnabas if he'd rather be a pig or a frog. He pushes past her. He needs to help his son and she's in the way. Up on the tower, Lucifer grabs Wolf and throws him across the floor.

Vlad gets knocked down hard. Fay kneels next to him and she's bleeding. She leans in close to him for luck. When she pulls back, a drop of her blood is on his lip. This time, Vlad doesn't get sick. He gets up and roars like a real vampire. The three friends stand together. Then they spot the crystal behind Vlad.

Vlad steps in front of it and Lucifer fires a bolt of lightning from his staff. At the last second, Vlad jumps aside. The lightning hits the crystal instead. Red light blasts out of it and Lucifer bursts into sparks. Down in the square, everyone cheers. They think it was all part of the show.

That was a show. Barnabas runs up the tower and finds the kids safe. Wolf can't stop talking about how he turned into a werewolf and Fay flew and Vlad was a real vampire. Maybe they don't have to tell the others everything. At the festival, Wolf can't believe it. They saved the whole town and nobody even noticed.

Fay says maybe that's a good thing. Some people here might not mind being wild again. Then Mr. Hannipel gives Vlad back his blood fragment. Barnabas tells Vlad that his mom would be proud of him, and so is he. Now they're a gang, so they need a name. The bullies show up again to pick on them.

But a few words from the three friends, and the bullies are soon fighting each other instead. The three walk off laughing. They've got their name, the Wolf Gang. Vlad came to Crayfeld as the vampire who couldn't stand blood. Fay was afraid to fly and Wolf couldn't even turn into a wolf.

Together, those three misfits saved a whole town that never found out.
